KURUKSHETRA UNIVERSITY

The foundation of Kurukshetra University was laid down by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, a receiver of the Bharat Ratna Award and also the first president of India. It was established as a Unitary Residential University on 11th January 1956. The University has been accredited grade A+ by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The university is also approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The Kurukshetra University is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. Governor of Haryana is the Chancellor of the university. Mr. Kailash Chandra Sharma is the present Vice-Chancellor.

The University campus is spread over an area of 473 acres and is located on the historical land of Kurukshetra, on the southern bank of the famous Brahm Sarover (the holy tank). The university started with only a single department i.e. The Department of Sanskrit. And today it has become one of the premier universities of India with multiple faculties and centres for advanced study and research work.

The Vision of the university is to be globally recognized and acknowledged as a distinguished institution of academic excellence. The university aims in producing and preparing such proficient scholars, researchers, professionals who are committed to expanding the parameters of their knowledge towards the advancement and wellness of the society. Apart from providing excellent quality education to its students the Kurukshetra University also encompasses the values of Yogastha Kuru Karmani which has been expressed in Shrimad Bhagwat Gita.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development placed the University at 8th place amongst the State Universities in the Country. Kurukshetra University has also been granted academic autonomy. To transform the university into the centre for the excellence of academics the digitalization of the Kurukshetra University is into progress. Once the digitalization of the university is complete it would create a transparent and efficient system of learning which will promote learning and facilitate learner’s experience.

The Kurukshetra University offers to its aspirants around 175 courses on the campus through its 47 Departments and institutes. The faculty of the university is highly qualified and experienced. The University also provides Higher Education to the thousands of youths of Haryana state through its 282 affiliated colleges and institutions spread over 7 districts.

The Kurukshetra University offers numerous Undergraduate, Postgraduate and M.Phil in various specializations. The university also provides distance learning courses to candidates.

POSTGRADUATE COURSES

The Postgraduate Degrees offered by Kurukshetra University are normally of two years duration except for courses as M.Sc. (Tech) and MCA which are for three years each and M.Sc. (Lib & Inf.Sc.) which is for one year. Admission to all the courses depends upon the Score in Common Entrance Exam (CEE) which is followed by the counseling. The Admission Procedure for MCA is controlled by the Haryana State Technical Education Society. Admission to MBA will be based on the score of the Common Entrance Exam which will be followed by Group Discussions and Personal Interview.

To take admission in M.Phil courses a candidate needs to clear an entrance examination conducted by the University.
