NRI Quota in IIT

All NRI students who wish to be granted a place in deemed colleges must fulfil the prerequisites mentioned above. Such as passing the NEET exam, holding a valid passport, earning at least 60% in PCB, and being at least 17 years old.

2. Register with MCC

The next stage is to register with the Medical Counselling Committee, or MCC, after meeting all prerequisites. So, for getting registered, visit the official website and register on the MCC official website  www.mcc.nic.in and pay the registration fee accordingly.  

3. Apply for NRI Sponsored Category

When registering with MCC, be sure to choose the NRI Sponsored Category and to attach any required documentation to validate your NRI status.

4. Seek MCC Approval

Following their selection of the NRI funded category, students must wait for MCC to confirm that the category is eligible. After receiving the approval, student can proceed with the next step.

5. Choice Filling

The next stage in the choice-filling process is to rank the institutions you have decided to apply to, in order of preference.

6. Declaration of Round 1 Result

As soon as the Round 1 results are made public, MCC will display the deemed university and course that you have been assigned based on your preferences and the seats that are available.

7. Accept or Reject Seat Allotted

For Bachelor Programmes

• Send SAT-1 test results straight to NIFT H.O. New Delhi via College Board, USA.
• The candidate must specify the 7258 Designated Institution (DI) Code while registering for the SAT-1 exam.
• The Campus and Programme will be allotted to the candidates based on SAT- I/GMAT/ GRE score as well as the preference of the candidate.

For Master Programmes

• The GMAT exam results for the Master of Fashion Management (MFM) should be sent straight to NIFT H.O. Delhi.
• The GRE test results for Master of Design (M.Des.) and Master of Fashion Technology (M.FTech.) should be sent immediately to NIFT H.O. Delhi.
• The GRE/ GMAT/SAT-I scores should not have been declared before 1st January, 2015 and should be received by the Institute latest by 30th April, 2017.

Academic Eligibility: All candidates must satisfy the required academic qualifications. Supreme court judgement on nri quota

The Supreme Court on August 26, 2023 has temporarily suspended the implementation of the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) quota for MBBS admissions in Assam. The decision comes in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by advocate Adiz Zaman, raising concerns over the reservation of medical seats for NRIs at a cost of Rs 18 lakh per seat. TThe NRI quota is suspended for more consideration in light of the Supreme Court's ruling.

In June 2023, the Assam government announced a ground-breaking initiative: 10% of MBBS seats in medical institutes throughout the state will be reserved for non-resident Indian (NRI) students. But the action soon attracted notice and resulted in a court intervention. In particular, the NRI quota system—which demanded a hefty payment of Rs 18 lakh per seat for reservation—was contested in Advocate Adiz Zaman's PIL.

The state administration had justified their choice by pointing out that Assam's growing medical seat shortage necessitated modifications to admissions policies. In reaction to the growing capacity, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma disclosed that the state's regulations governing admittance to MBBS and BDS programmes had been modified.

10% of all MBBS seats that remained after subtracting quotas like the 15% All India Quota, Central Poll, and Northeastern Council Quota were set aside for NRI and NRI-sponsored students under the planned NRI quota programme. Chief Minister Sarma emphasised the need of upholding the necessary academic credentials, pointing out that applicants hoping to be admitted under the NRI quota had to pass the NEET UG test.

Thapar NRI Quota Fees

ADMISSION OF FN/NRI CANDIDATES (For all Programs): 

15% over and above seats in each program/discipline are reserved for the FN/NRI candidates. Such candidates are not required to appear in the Entrance Test (except for PhD program). 

For BE/BTech program: 

Candidate should have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with at least 60% marks in aggregate of three subjects, namely, Physics, Mathematics and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Computer Science 

For all other programs except PhD: 

Candidate should have obtained 60% marks in the qualifying examination as mentioned in the eligibility criteria of respective program/discipline. 

For PhD program: 

Candidate should have obtained 60% marks in the qualifying examination as mentioned in the eligibility criteria of respective program/discipline and is also required to qualify in the entrance test to be conducted by TU for admission into PhD program. 

Those who have passed the qualifying exam as specified in the eligibility from overseas are considered "NRI" applicants. At the time of entrance, they must present their passport. 

Note: Candidates seeking admission under ‘wards of person working in Gulf’ must have passed 10+2 from Gulf. 

Candidates with a citizenship status other than India are referred to as "FN" candidates. This group also includes wards of people employed in the Gulf and South Asia, as well as People of Indian ancestry (PIO). A fifth of the seats are set aside for dependents of employees in the Gulf and South Asia. It is mandatory for all FN applicants to deposit their endorsed student visa at TU.
