Kalyani University

University Of Kalyani or Kalyani University is a state university located in Nadia district of West Bengal. Established in 1960, the University of Kalyani has a campus spread over in a vast area of over 400 acres in Kalyani town. It helps mostly to the students who come from rural and backward areas. The Kalyani University is presently offering 23 PG Programmes under four faculties. This influential University is providing academic guidance and leadership to 36 affiliated degree colleges situated in the districts of Nadia, Murshidabad, and parts of N. 24 Parganas.

The university is ranked 86 among Universities in India by the NIRF in 2018 and in the 101–150 band overall. It is providing academic guidance and leadership to 44 affiliated colleges (18 in Nadia, 25 in Murshidabad and 1 in North 24 Parganas). These Colleges are independent of the university but they follow the course curriculum of the university.

In the Affiliated Colleges of Kalyani University, the standards of teaching are monitored by a council through a process of academic audit for UG studies, planning board and a nominated college development council (CDC). The Kalyani University has brought in a vast range of curricular options to train the students in various fields of specialization through teaching, research, and extension. The development and outreach activities, as well as ingenious programmes of the Adult and Continuing Education Centre, INSPARC and the technical back-up unit of the Kalyani University.

In the campus of the Kalyani University Planning, almost all the departments are housed in separate buildings, keeping adequate scope for their extensions in the dense green campus of around 400 acres. The Kalyani University is a member of Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Global University Network for Innovation (GUNI).

Kalyani University Admissions

Kalyani University offers both Ph.D. and M.Phil. degree under 76 different specializations. The duration of all these programs is around 2-5 years. Admission to Ph.D. and M.Phill. Programs is done by Kalyani University Research Eligibility Test (KURET) / EEARP/ KURAT followed by a Personal Interview conducted by the university.

A candidate shall be exempted from appearing in the EEARP provided that he/she —

  1. has qualified in NET/SLET/SET/GATE /KURAT/KURET or any other National or State level test for pursuing teaching or research.
  2. was admitted through the entrance test in M.Phil/M.Tech. course (other than five- year integrated M.Tech. Course) and has obtained M.Phil/M.Tech.
  3. is a whole-time teacher of this University or any other University / Institute recognized by this University
  4. is a whole-time teacher of Govt./Govt. aided College

  1. Application Fees for M.Tech and M.P.Ed. is INR 300 (for General & OBC candidates), INR 150 (for SC/ST candidates) and INR 120 (for PwD).
  2. Application Fees for MBA & DHHM and other PG Courses are INR 400 (for General & OBC candidates), INR 200 (for SC/ST candidates) and INR 160 (for PwD).
  3. Application Fees for integrated M.Sc. Statistics is INR 500 (for General & OBC candidates), INR 250 (for SC/ST candidates) and INR 200 (for PwD)

Foreign candidates willing to apply to the University need to fill in the University Application Form and pay the required registration fee. International candidates applying to the courses offered by the University must make sure that they comply by the eligibility criteria.

In the year 1960, the Kalyani University has established and grown to an inclusive institution with strong bases of administration and qualified faculty towards the mission of improvement of learning and research. On the official website of the Kalyani University the Application Form is available online. The steps of the application procedure are as follows:

The application fee is INR 100. In online mode payment must be made through SBI Collect. In offline mode payment is made through Pre-acknowledgment payment challan. The

  • Visit the official website i.e. http://dodl.klyuniv.ac.in/
  • Click on “DODL: M.A. Admission” and after that click on ‘Admission form’ and ‘Enrolment form’.
  • Download the form.
  • Payment should be made Online through SBI Collect or Pre-Acknowledgement payment challan.
  • After made the online payment, a candidate must be accompanied the duly filled in Application Form and Enrolment Form with relevant documents and must be submitted to the DODL office.

Kalyani University Facilities

University Gymnasium

Under the supervision of the Department of Physical Education, Kalyani University has a robust and adequately managed Gymnasium. In general, Students comprising hostel boarders can take pleasure of multi-gym facilities under the adept guidance of the teachers and coaches belonging to the above-mentioned department.

Central Library

In the year 1961, The University of Kalyani was initiated the Library system after the establishment of the Kalyani University in the year 1960. The current building which resides library was inaugurated in the year 1979. At present, the Central Library of university is a three storied building.

Central Library was established in order to meet the academic and research need of the Teachers, Research Scholars, the Students and the other staff members. In a lively University campus, the Central Library serves as the hive of academic activities for students, scholars, staffs and faculty members in pursuit of excellence in their respective area of studies. Central Library of Kalyani University provides books, journals as well as current information on various topics to accomplish the requirements of the Community of University.

University Health Centre

For providing medical assistance to its communities, the University of Kalyani has houses a well-equipped Health Centre. It initiated functioning from the early sixties, while the building was established on 1978.

The communities of University, i.e. research scholars, students, officers,  employees, and their families are enjoying medical facilities from the Health Centre.  Health Centre extends health care activities both in deterrent and as well as healing ways.

University Guest House

The University has a two-storied furnished Guest House located near the entrance of the main campus. There are 2 single-bed and 4 double-bed rooms. There is the availability of air-conditiner in one of the double-bed rooms. The one who visits the University for administrative and academic purposes or we can say official purposes are cordially accommodated to enjoy the Guest house facility at very economical rate. For providing the temporary accommodation to the guests, university has another guest house.

Hostel Accommodation

Mainly, on the basis of the distance from the residence and family income of the regular students and Research Scholars Admission to various halls and Hostels of the University is made. Research scholars or Regular students have to apply to the Dean, Students’ Welfare in prescribed format in Hostel Admission form along with following documents:

Attested photocopies of

  • Admission Fees book,
  • Residential document (Voter ID/Ration card),
  • Distance certificate & Rail ticket,
  • Family income certificate,
  • Caste certificate,
  • Two copies of photograph etc.

Under the supervision of Provost/Superintendent, boarders have to accept by rules, regulations, and the hostel norms. Within the 5th day of each month, boarders have to make payment of meal charge. There is a strict in-time for all the boarders, no boarder is granted to enter Hostel after 6.30 p.m. during September to February and 7.00 pm. during March to August. All fees are collected by the concerned Provost/Superintendent or Steward/Stewardess on behalf of Provost. All fees are collected from the borders to be deposited in the Bank Account of the respective Hostels. Except the Steward/Stewardess and Provost/Superintendent, no boarder is allowed to collect or deposit money from to any border.

Guest is not allowed to stay in the hostel. For emergency, boarders may take permission in written for their guest from their concerned Superintendent/ Provost, for not more than 3 days. If the days goes beyond 3 days boarders have to take written permission from the Dean, Students’ Welfare for their Guest. Charges to be deposited in advance to the Provost/Superintendent. No guest will be allowed to visit a border beyond visiting hours (i.e. 8 am to 10 am and 4 pm to 6 pm)

Auditorium

The University has two A.C Auditoriums, Vidyasagar Sabhagriha and Acharya Prafulla Chandra Sabhakaksha and two non-A.C auditoriums, Samir Dasgupta Mancha and Bibhuti Bhusan Kaksha for holding seminars, workshop, Symposia and Cultural activities of the students.

Besides the above mentioned auditoriums, there is about 15 Seminar and Lecture halls attach to different academic departments.
