G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology

The university Established in 1960 with an aim of imparting rural education by an act of the State Legislature of Uttar Pradesh is Govind Ballabh Pant University Of Agriculture & Technology which is well-known as GBPUAT. The G.B. Pant University of Agriculture & Technology is dedicated to the nation by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. The university is approved by UGC and AICTE, the main campus is situated in Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand. It is a public university founded under the American land-grant model. Formerly known as Uttar Pradesh Agricultural University, its foundation as India’s first agricultural university was announced by then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

The Admission to G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology is made on the basis of marks scored in entrance examinations conducted by the University and other competitive examinations.

Early American influence was strong. The land-grant model allowed the creation of a purpose-built campus on land reclaimed from jungle at Pantnagar, 160 miles from Delhi. Stretch over more than 10,000 acres, it is evaluated to be the 2nd Largest Adjacent University Campus in the world.

Until 1972, In the creation and leadership of the institution the faculty from the University of Illinois played a dominant part, in the same year it was renamed after Govind Pant, the first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology has 9 faculties and 14 specialist research centres, and was hailed by the agronomist Norman Borlaug, winner of the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize, as a ‘harbinger of the green revolution’. Its researchers played a substantial part in the advancement of high-yielding seeds and have been responsible for the creation of over 200 new varieties of seed and plant, with current activity attracted on organic farming and biological pest control. The International Journal of Basic and Applied Agricultural Research has been published by GBPUAT.

It has an unusually high ratio of staff to students, with one member of teaching staff to every six students in 2017. Undergraduate courses include a compulsory community service element, with 240 hours of work counting towards degrees.

Age Criteria: Candidates should be maximum 22 years in age (25 years for SC/ST categories) as on June 30, (at the year of the exam). However, candidates applying for B V Sc & AH degree programmes must be minimum 17 years and maximum 25 years of age as on December 31, (at the year of the exam).

Candidates who are appearing for their qualifying exam at the same year of the examination are also eligible to apply. However, such candidates must produce their final year marksheet at the time of GBPUAT Counselling.

GBPUAT Admission: Entrance Exam, Admission form

Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT), the First Agricultural University of India, was established 1960 by Jawaharlal Nehru. The university is located in Udham Singh Nagar, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand securing 500 seats for PG students and 120 seats for the candidates pursuing Doctoral Degree.

The university offers multiple programmes at UG and PG level, along with Ph.D Programme focusing diversified fields viz, Science, Computer Science, Agriculture, Fisheries Science and so forth.

The university caters a different kind of admission procedures for the admission in different courses:

  • On the basis of merit of JEE Conducted by CBSE, New Delhi, Admissions to B.Tech. Programmes shall be done by the University
  • Admissions to Master’s courses shall be done through the entrance examination conducted by J.N.U., New Delhi in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.
  • Admission to Master’s programmes in MBA/ MBA (Agribusiness) shall be made through CAT and CMAT Score and Group Discussion and an Interview conducted by the University.
  • In M.Tech. programmes, admission shall be made based on the GATE qualifying marks in the subject (Major) in which admission is sought.
  • On the basis of separate Entrance Examination to be conducted by the University the admissions to MCA Programme shall be made.
  • Admission for rest of the courses goes on on the basis of merit.

GBPUAT UG Admission

The university provides multiple Undergraduate Programmes like B.Sc, B.Tech, B.V.Sc. & A.H, B.Sc in Community Science and B.F.Sc to the bonafide candidates. Apart from the B.Sc in Fisheries Science and B.Tech degree rest of the courses hold three years duration period. Duration of the B.Sc in Fisheries Science and B.Tech is four years.

Candidates looking for admission in B.Tech Programme need to appear for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted by CBSE board, Delhi. The admission is done purely on the basis of the marks secured in JEE.

The admission of rest of the UG Bachelor’s Degree programmes, is made by the obtained marks of candidates, in 10+2 level examination or any equivalent exam from an authorized board.

The university administered different admission process for the different courses:

  • The candidates seeking admission in Master’s degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology programme, must have to go through the entrance examination conducted by J.N.U., New Delhi.

GBPUAT Application Process

  • Only ONLINE application from procedure is available. Candidates should log on to the website to submit application form.
  • The candidates come into sight in the qualifying exam can also apply provided that they must generate authentic mark-sheet of the final year indicating class/division obtained at time of counselling failing which their candidature will not be considered for counselling.
  • Candidates belonging General category need to make payment Rs. 1200 and the SC/ST/PH category candidates need to pay Rs. 600 as Application and Examination fee.
