8. The Comparison

We continue our journey with college comparisons to the next destination, Maharashtra. Home to some of the Best Institutions in the Country, Maharashtra is a state often discussed when topics regarding the best educational institutions in India come up.

FLAME vs Sandip vs MIT University

FLAME, Sandip, and MIT University are amongst the Best Universities in Maharashtra

In this college comparison article, we will be looking at private universities, six of them to be precise. These institutions are FLAME University, Sandip University, MIT University, Ajeenkya DY Patil University, Amity, and Sanjay Ghodawat University.

The factors which will be considered for this comparison are listed below

The Factors

The establishing of key distinguishing factors is necessary to conduct an academically sound comparison between a group of universities and colleges.

These factors are listed below:

  1. Placements

While many students acknowledge placements as a defining factor, only a handful actually check the placement data of a prospective college. Most college aspirants depend on simple word-of-mouth for getting details regarding placements. This is clearly not an ideal scenario, as something as important as placement data should not be distributed solely dependent on ‘word-of-mouth’

Ideally, students should visit the college or university website to check the placement data. Most colleges upload the complete raw data of their placement performance in the past 3-4 years. In case a college does not provide placement data, perhaps you should look for another college.

  1. Student perception of a college/university

While placements are inherently quantitative in nature, perception is a highly deceptive factor. It can’t be quantified, it can’t be tamed and worst of all; it can’t be explained.

When it comes to colleges, student perception plays a huge role in shaping the entire narrative surrounding the college. Even after failing to improve its research output and global outreach over the years, the IITs still maintain an aura around their name. They have managed to do so for one simple reason: perception. By setting extremely difficult question papers in entrance exams, the IITs have created an air of invincibility around their brand.

  1. Infrastructure

Anything which contributes to the learning of a student and is provided by the college/university can be deemed as part of college infrastructure. This includes practical application labs, libraries, extra-curricular faculties, faculties, research opportunities, modern teaching techniques, and a sound environment for learning.

  1. Affordability

Private Universities are known for charging higher tuition fee than government colleges. For this reason, any private university with a low fee naturally becomes much more viable for most students. If all colleges seem the same, students will always choose the college which asks for a lower fee. As they say in the movies, ‘It’s not economics, it’s just logic’

FLAME University Pune

FLAME University is a private institution located in Pune. An acronym for ‘Foundation for Liberal and Management Education’, FLAME is a self-proclaimed liberal education university.

FLAME University Pune

With a strong foundation of liberal values, FLAME University is one of the most popular institutes in Pune

Liberal arts haven’t been met with the same passion in India as they have caught on with Western students, but there is undeniably room for top quality liberal education in our present education system. With too much focus on engineering as a field of study, the parallel growth of liberal arts is a welcome change.

FLAME University was established in 2007 and was seen as an effort at the time to blend management education with liberal values. The university is currently headed by the former director of IIM-L, Dr. Devi Singh.

The university is recognized by UGC and accredited by AICTE and NBA.
