12. AKGEC vs JSS vs G.L Bajaj: Where do they stand?

reviewadda article

AKGEC, G.L Bajaj and JSS form the triad of Top Engineering Institutions in Delhi-NCR region

A survey backed by the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering claimed that India produces the largest number of engineers in the world. Those living in the NCR region near Delhi would argue there is no need for such a report. All one needs to do is take a visit to Greater Noida.

The humor notwithstanding, Indians have always found a unique fascination with a Career in Engineering. If engineers in India decided the make a cult tomorrow morning, they would become the fifth biggest religion in India. As mind-boggling as the statistic may seem, it is the reality.

Samrat Prakash, an engineering graduate currently working in Bangalore explains the crux behind this obsession. ‘The problem with stereotypes is that they come back to haunt you again and again. Engineering was the go-to career a few decades back during the times of the aspirational middle class. The current scenario portrays multiple levels of middle class and while not all of them are aspirational, they all still believe in the stereotype of engineering’

To explain this never-ending phenomenon, Amrita Goyal, a Career Counselor in Delhi sheds some light. ‘In developed countries such as the US and UK, you observe a balanced level of interest across all disciplines.

This is because the stereotype of engineering being a safe career is non-existent. All careers are safe as long as you work hard. In India though, only a handful of careers are considered safe. Why would a student at an age of 18 take a risk which could jeopardize his/her career? They will always choose the safe option, which in India is engineering

With such an abundance of Engineering Colleges in India, there is a growing concern amongst students to identify the right college for undergraduate studies. Ajay Singh, an engineering aspirant residing in Noida is faced with a similar problem. ‘I’m certain I won’t make it to the IITs. The problem I have is how does one verify the reliability of a college? Almost every website I have visited and every counselor I’ve talked to knows merely about the IITs and NITs. What about these arrays of colleges in Greater Noida? Are they all useless?’

The question Ajay raises is a fair one. Why do websites and counselors draw a blank when asked about slightly lesser known colleges? Consequently, if they’re so bad as to be unworthy of a mere mention, why are they allowed to exist in the first place? Surely they must be AICTE approved?

To bridge this lack of knowledge of rust-belt colleges, we will conduct an in-depth comparison between engineering institutes.

Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College (AKGEC), Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad is home to a thriving manufacturing industry, a top-draw B-school and some top engineering colleges amongst which ranks Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College (AKGEC).

Established in 1998, AKGEC is a private institution affiliated to the Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU). Under the stewardship of Dr. R.K Agrawal, an IISc alumnus since 1998, AKGEC has seen a steady rise in stature and perception. Bucking the trend of lackadaisicalness which is ubiquitous amongst UPTU engineering colleges, AKGEC has struck the right balance across all disciplines of engineering.

reviewadda article

AKGEC Ghaziabad has become UPTU’s most renowned engineering college over the years

The rise of AKGEC has not gone unnoticed. In 2008, it became the first and only college in UP to receive the Academic Excellence Award for Best Engineering College in UPTU. They claimed the same distinction in 2009 as well, becoming the only college to win the award in successive years.

Accredited by NAAC and NBA, AKGEC steady rise has been met with an equally good response by students, amongst whom the college is in high demand. Good showings during placements and academic results have paved the way for AKGEC to become an established name in technical education for the foreseeable future.

AKGEC Courses and fees

As the name suggests, AKGEC courses comprise only of engineering and no other disciplines of study. The B.Tech courses offered at AKGEC are as follows:

  1. Civil Engineering
  2. Computer Science & Engineering
  3. Electrical & Electronics Engineering
  4. Electrical & Communications Engineering
  5. Mechanical Engineering
  6. Information Technology

AKGEC fees is Rs. 1,07,425/- per annum.

AKGEC UPSEE Cutoff

Since AKGEC is affiliated to UPTU, candidates who wish to seek admission shall have to appear for the Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Exam (UPSEE). After the declaration of results, applicants will have to attend UPSEE counseling for admission to AKGEC. The AKGEC UPSEE cutoff for 2016 is tabulated below.

AKGEC Placements

reviewadda article

Placements have only risen at AKGEC over the past four years

The foundation of AKGEC’s popularity is predicated upon a top-notch placement record. Over the years, placements at AKGEC have seen an upturn as a reward for improving its academics and infrastructure. Despite the jobs slowdown hitting most colleges in the country, the likes of AKGEC have survived regardless.

Jaypee Institute of Information Technology (JIIT), Noida

In the vicinity of JSS, JIIT has for long been regarded as the best college in Noida for its unimpeachable reputation as a top college for tech and IT subjects.

The IT revolution was made possible by the consistent supply of IT engineers. The IT scene in Noida is thriving today with a major contribution from Jaypee, who has for long been churning out industry grade IT engineers for the past 13 years.

reviewadda article

JIIT Noida is one of NCR’s and UP’s most trusted names in engineering education

Despite its record, Jaypee has seen its fair share of controversies. JIIT was one of the 44 deemed universities derecognized by the Government of India in 2010. Upon the directive of the Supreme Court of India, the UGC had been ordered to conduct physical confirmation of infrastructure and faculty strength of these blacklisted universities. The issue ended in 2017 when Jaypee was granted its ‘deemed’ status again and almost simultaneously drafted back into the MHRD rankings.

Ranked 54th in the list of engineering colleges released by MHRD, Jaypee is once again amongst the top colleges in the NCR region. All its courses have been accredited and approved by AICTE.

JIIT Courses and fees

JIIT as the name suggests offers courses primarily related to the IT and tech sector. The Jaypee B.Tech courses are listed below:

  1. Biotechnology
  2. Electronics and Communications Engineering
