Overview Information

The National Institute of Engineering, popularly known as NIE, found in 1946, is the second oldest college of Engineering in Karnataka.

NIE is an autonomous institution affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University.
It was granted autonomy in the year 2007. It was started in 1946 with Diploma Programs in Civil Engineering in a room under a thatched roof in Lakshmipuram.
The funds obtained were used to strengthen the various Centers of Excellence in the college and to set up new ones.
It was one of the few colleges in the Karnataka to be granted autonomy for all its courses.
The campus is sprawled out over an area of 18 acres of land.
The college has been acknowledged as 1^st among private-aided engineering institutes in the State &3rd among Private engineering colleges in state.

Hostel	NIE provides a separate hostel accommodation facility for both girls & boys The boy’s hostel accommodates around 280 inmates The hostel for girls can accommodate up to 60 girls & is around one km far from the Institute
Library	It established its library in 1946 with the collection of about 76000 Volumes. It contains Abstracts, Yearbooks, Directories, & Biographical sources, Thesis, Textbooks, Dissertations, Encyclopedias & General books comprising Kannada novels. The library is also subscribing for 30 general magazines 57+ Technical journals
Sports	It has produced several National, International, State level Sports Persons. NIE has one of the best Hi-Tech Fitness Centre for the use of staff & students Badminton, Basket Ball, Table Tennis, Wrestling, Judo, Gymnastics, Carom, Chess facility Students of NIE can takes up the advantage of gym facility at cheap cost present in the administrative block of NIE
NSS	The NSS Unit of the college (NIE) runs around strength of 100 Students of any branch can join this & the period of enrollment is 2 years Apart from regular NSS activities special camps for 10 days are organized during the vacation period
