About College

Located in Chromepet, Chennai, Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), was established in 1949 year by C. Rajam. The institute is one of the 4 constituents of Anna University but in the year 1978 it was merged with Anna University. 

  • MIT is the 1st institute in India to offer postgraduate (PG) courses in mechatronics and avionics.
  • The institute campus is also home to AU-KBC Center for the Internet and Telecom Technologies (AU-KBC) and Center for Automotive Research and Training (CART) research centers.
  • MIT has received many awards which comprise an award by Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE) and an award for the Best Overall Performance in the year 1999.
  • MIT has Alumni Associations in Singapore through SMITAAZINE, which is a quarterly e-newsletter cum e-zine containing events and announcements related to SMITAA and various chapters of MITAA.
  • The institute follows the credit-based system of performance assessment and student-teacher relation with relative weighting of courses based on their significance.
  • MIT publishes its annual magazine MITMAG, TECH TIMES (Computer Society), InsTrue (technical magazine), PRO-MAG (yearly magazine), PERSOPLUS (Personality Development Association magazine) and The MIT Quill (newsletter).
  • A museum named MIT Museum has been setup on the campus. The museum involves pictures of all central events, newspaper, and books.

  • MITAFEST: It is a Cultural Festival Organized by MIT, Chennai

  • PRAYATNA: It is a Technical Symposium of Computer Technology department.
  • Elastoplaz: It is Technical Symposium of department of Rubber & Plastics Technology.
