In order to get Addmission in HIT one needs to clear West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination and should secure a rank between 1000 to 4000. However the students who clears IIT mains can also get the admission and a certain seats are reserved for them but first preference is being given to WBJEE

The placement process will start as soon as the student reaches the 3rd year. As Haldia is an industrial hub of West Bengal, most of the MNC are seen to participate in the placement process. The college holds a Good reputation of having the placement of nearly 75percent students. TCS,, Infosys, Goodrej, Samsung, LG etc are the few names that provides placement to the students. During the year of 2014 and 2009 Haldia set a record because of the Microsoft that visited the college for selection if the students and more than 10 students got selected. TCS has just opened their Rand D cell near by the college so the students are hugely benefited from this. Regarding internships , it depends upon the department which one belong to and its HOD. Some directs the student to for the internship in the 2nd year and some in the 3rd year. Land T, NHPC, BHEL, TATA, Reliance, Infosys etc are famous where the students perform their internship most often
Fees & Scholarships
The fee structure is very much reasonable as compared to other private engineering colleges. During the admission the students need to pay the fees for 1st semester and which vary upon the year in which an individual joins the college. On Average the students need to pay 60thousand , and after every six months the students have to pay the fees by the method of demand draft in favour of the college. The fees for even Semister is charged bit lower than the odd semester, In totality in four year the fees will be 4lacs approximately but excluding the hostel charges. The students who's financial background are not that much good to afford the fees of the college can avail an education loan. It can be done either through the college or through the bank located near by the permanent address. SBI, central bank , union bank of India, Syndicate bank are some of the banks that provide loan to the students from the college premises. There is. Fee concession for the students belonging to the BPL category and it depends upon the Govt rules and regulation. Scheduled caste and Tribes, OBC, Minorites are being given the scholarship provided the student should be the resident of Westbengal and his or her subcaste should be in the list of the castes declared by the Backward and welfare class department of Govt of West Bengal. Every year they are given one time scholarship and for hostelers the amount is higher than the the nonhostelers. The outsiders belonging to any f the caste mentioned above can also apply for the scholarship in their state form where they belong to and the college Treasury cell will provide help if enauired regarding the matter. The students who have scored exceptionally good marks in their boards and in their semester exams are also given some concession in the fees.
Academics & Faculty
Within a week of joining the college, the introductory classes and freshers welcome are organised, after their completion the classes will start. The normal day schedule of the college is, it starts at 9A.M and continue to 12 noon, then a lunch break of 2 hours is provided, again the class resumes at 2P.M and will continue up to 6P.M. During the morning shift mist probably the theory paper class are conducted and in the later shift usually the practical classes are conducted. Haldia is known for providing an avenue for the students which hoons out the practical skills of the students. The labs are well maintained with all sorts of accessories being made available. The teachers are very strict while conducting the practical classes as it is the base of any Engineering students. The students are divided into many groups of two each and they need to perform the experiments. After every intervals the readings are thoroughly checked , this makes the normal student also to inculcate the clear concept about the experiments.Most of the teachers are well qualified and are seen to be very perfect in their respective subjects. For each subjects more than 6 to 7 teachers are available. The HOD of the concerned department thoroughly checks the performance of both the students and teachers.No students can remain absent without a valid reason and the administration even sometimes check the hostel during the classes hour to not allow students miss the class without any reason. The teachers are supportive and provide every possible help to make the student clear about the subject.
College Infrastructure
Haldia Instotute of Technology holds the first position in the state fir having a mammoth infrastructure. There are twelve departments for BTech courses including the MTech and MBA. The library is well maintained and each students need to maintain their i.d seeratepy for the library. It even assists the students by providing all the relevant books which they need to return back after the completion of the semester.Those colleges which are under WBUT, all of them respect the institution for having a very good labs. All the accessories are available and the every students get the opportunity to use the device. In l each semester more than 5 papers will be the practical oriented ones, so the teachers are very much affirmed to make the students exuberant in the lab classes. No mercy or grace. Marks system is available. One has to perform good in the practical exams to get good numbers .Digital lab, CRo, Electric, Mechanical, Food Technology, Electronics etc are some of the vital practical classes for the students. They need t main a separate copy for the lab, and after the completion of each experiment the students have to submit the report to the teachers in a profession manners by compiling in a file. Even Rand D cell of company like TCS are present within the campus.
Food Services & Hostel
The students can either choose to stay in the hostel or in P.G outside the campus. For the hostels, the mess is provided for which they need to pay on a monthly basis. In a day 3. Times the food is being served. The food quality depends upon the likes and the dislikes of an individual. As far as i am concerned, i believe the food quality is good and a nominal cost is charged as per the number of meals taken. Hardly the monthly expenditure in the mess will be 2000Rs. Inside the campus, the departmental shop is also present which also provide the meals but need to pay for the meal instant. The hostels are well maintained and after every second day, the cleaner will come for the service. The hostels are segregated as per the students year of belonging. Ragging us considered to be a crime and if comes under the notice of the college administration then one has to face the Disciplinary Action Committee. In each room 3 to 4 students stay, beds, mats, are provided by the college itself and the good thing us, the rooms are not congested at all. Free space rooms are available such that the students can study properly rather than suffering from Suffocation.

8. At school our teachers used to say that college professors are very cold and distant and they don’t help students like school teachers do. But with DME it was so not true. All the teachers are extremely helpful. Each class has its own mentor and they are there at every step. Even the teachers who aren’t your official mentor are approachable.
