About College

Kasturba Medical College was the first private medical college in India established in the year 1953. In the beginning years, the college provided only pre-clinical courses and for clinical training had to go Mangalore. In 1969, Medical College has introduced clinical program & become full- fledged independent college. It has got recognition in 1958 by Medical Council of India & in 2008 from Government of India.The college focuses on creating highly qualified professionals to the serve the nation.

  • It was ISO 9001 : 2000 certified in the year 2005

  • Students from 44 countries have graduated from KMC, and the medical degree (MBBS) is recognized worldwide, including by the General Medical Council and ECFMG

  • The admission to the KMC College is through its online entrance exam

Extra Curricular Activities: The college organizes wide variety of cultural & sports events throughout the year like

There are separate sections for both men and women. Winners and runner-ups in these events are awarded merit certificates. The Winning team will be awarded a trophy for that year.

Facilities

Anatomy Museum

Billed as one of the largest in Asia, the museum boasts of over 3,000 specimens and samples of things anatomical, including the skulls of an elephant and a whale, and the long skeleton of a King Cobra.

Simulation Lab

More than 100 training manikins are available to train undergraduate and postgraduate students in the health science including medical, dental, nursing and allied health fields.

Cardiology Lab

It has a well-equipped ICCU and Post - Op ICU with the latest monitoring devices and equipment, the latest Cardiac Cath Lab and a non-invasive Cardiology Diagnostic Lab for Echo, Stress Test, Holter, CT scan etc.

Library

The Health Sciences Library is spread over 1.5 lakh sq. ft. over five levels, and can accommodate 1300 students at a time. It has over a collection of 63525 books and subscribe to 575 journals and 3274 online journals. It also acquire 692 audio visual CD’s, 140 computers, 6 scanners and 15 printers.

Hostel

  • Separate hostels in the campus are provided to the boys & girls with the hostel wardens

  • Students have access to TV Room and other leisure/sports activities within the hostel premises

 

Sports Amenities: The Students show full enthusiasm for participating in the events organized by the college. The college has provided various facilities like-

  • One Athletic ground 400 metres

  • Two Basket Ball courts

  • One Cricket ground

  • One Foot Ball court

  • Two Throw Ball courts

  • Four Lawn Tennis courts

  • Three Volley Ball courts

  • TT and carom facilities in most of the hostels

Student Achievements: Three postgraduates of Clinical Embryology at KMC Manipal won awards for Best Research Papers 2013 at the 18th National Congress of Indian Society for Assisted Reproduction (ISAR) held in Rourkele, Odisha.

  • Sam Sudhakaran won the Dr Asha Rao Award for Best Oral Paper for the paper entitled “Effect of different ovarian tissue cryopreservation methods on oocyte methylation status”

  • Sandesh Patel won the Dr Poornima Nadakarni Award for Best Poster Presentation for the paper entitled “Biotin enhances sperm motility in asthenozoospermic subjects and developmental potential of embryos”

  • Sonu T Lukose won the Dr Asha Rao Award for Second Best Poster Presentation for the paper entitled “Liposomes of soya lecithin and cholesterol as extenders in cryopreservation of testicular sperm”

  • Kasturba Medical College was awarded as the best College in the Medical category at the World Consulting and Research Corporation Leaders’ inaugural Asian Education Excellence Summit in New Delhi on January 9, 2014.

  • Dr Guruprasad Kalthur, Clinical Embryology at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal was selected for the Award for Research Publication (ARP) for 2012-13 by the Vision Group on Science and Technology (VGST), Department of IT, BT, Science and Technology, Government of Karnataka, for his recent publication in an international journal.

  • Dr Pramod Kumar, Department of Plastic Surgery, was conferred the Safdarjung NABI Professorship Award 2012 by the National Academy of Burns, India, for his recent research work in burn care

  • Dr Raghavendra Rao, Department of Dermatology, was awarded a Commonwealth Academic Fellowship 2011 by the Academy of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and British Council, United Kingdom

  • Dr Pratap Kumar, was awarded the National Dr Kutty Lifetime Achievement Award by the Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI)

Scholarship: The institute has the provision of scholarships that are offered to:

  • Full scholarship for applicants who rank within 500 in the entrance examination

  • Sir Ratan Tata Trust scholarships for students who rank 1 to 30 in the first year MBBS
