S. Nijalingappa Institute of Dental Sciences & Research, Gulmarg is managed by Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society. It was initially affiliated to the Gulbarga University but was later transferred to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science Bangalore. It aims at imparting ethical and value based dental education in order to churn out professionals competent enough to serve the humanity. They also aim at making the dental healthcare better in the country by performing research in the field of dentistry, medicine and information technology. Their mission is to make this institute reach the centre of excellence in the dental higher education as per the global standards.

The institution has also been involved in various community service activities. It has adopted Venkat Bennur village, where every month their staff with Mobile Dental Unit  visits to conduct treatment and check-up at camp.
