Indian Maritime University, popularly known as IMU Chennai, is well known for courses in Marine. This institute is famous for marine engineering courses in India and provides an opportunity for the students with its education quality. 

• It offers high quality education degree, diploma and certification programs in Marine sciences.
• The University came into being on 14th November 2008 as a Central University.
• Located at Uthandi, Chennai, the university was established by Government of India under an act of parliament namely the Indian Maritime University Act of 2008
• The University has been known as a model university since its inception. It is a recognized and accredited central university in India.
• It has been approved by Directorate of shipping and is quality certified under ISO 9001:2000 standards.
• The University is at the Top level in the university list of the maritime fraternity.
• According to the ICRA’s grading system it has been given ICRA grade 1 to Chennai campus.

Facilities:

Hostel – The University offers accommodation/hostel facility to most of its students.

• Single seated and double seated rooms are available with 250 residents.
• The hostel provides hygienic food and facility for recreation.
• The food includes bed tea, breakfast and dinner for the students.
• The hostel facility is offered equally to girl and boy students.

Library – The central library of IMU is one of the most rich and well equipped university libraries in India. It is well connected with LAN & wifi and is open for its students and teaching staff.

• A collection of around large number of 8,000 books, journals, reference books and other study materials
• The library has the subscription of research journals.
