About College

Azim Premji University is a not for profit, autonomous university. Situated in the scenic outskirts of Bangalore, the Azim Premji University ranks high among the newer private universities in the city and has already established its commitment to excellence in the pursuit of higher education. The University was established in 2011 by the much renowned Azim Premji Foundation and offers students from far and wide to specialize in post graduate studies of different kinds.

• The Azim Premji University is approved of a recognized by the University Grants Commission of India (UGC) and the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE)
• The University campus is quite widespread, running over as many as twelve acres of land
• The University is organized in 6 operating units consisting of Schools and Centres with specific mandates
• The approach to education is an integrated one. This is done primarily to generate a more dynamic response on the part of its students and faculty members
• Both long term and short term degree programs in Education and Development are made available to students. Extensive research is encouraged and carried out in these academic departments so as to get closer to the University goals of contributing to major growth in the fields of social and educational development.
• Apart from degree programs, the university is known to conduct a number of academic initiatives as well. The most well-known of these is of course the Law and Governance Initiative which is open to scholars and young academics from not only within the country but from abroad as well
• Online admission facilities are made available to those interested in studying at this University. The application procedure is fairly uncomplicated and can be undertaken within a brief period of time. Once completed, the application of a student gets instantly processed after which university authorities get in touch with him or her through email.

Placement

The placement process is guided by the stated purpose of the University – which is to nurture accomplished, creative and socially committed professionals for the education and development sectors in India. The social purpose of the University was well reflected in the previous year’s placements.

• More and more of our students are engaged in working with not-for-profit organizations across the country
• Of the total, 60% of graduates across the Class of 2011-13 and 2012-14 are working at jobs at the grass root level across the country based in the field at district level locations

Facilities

Azim Premji University is one which has excellence resource facilities for the use of its students all through the year.

Library: The library houses a comprehensive collection of digital, media and print resources on subjects like psychology, education, philosophy, political science, law, development studies etc.

• Collection comprises of more than 22,000 books and 150 print and online journals.
• Some of the popular online journals that are made available to students include Sage, Questia, JSTOR, World Bank E Library, Ebsco and Manupatra.
• New arrivals are listed and displayed online as well as in the library premises
• RFID security System in place, which helps to prevent the theft of valuable books and other academic materials. 

Festivals

KathaVana: It is a Children’s Literature Festival organized by the University to promote interest in reading among school children and familiarize them with the rich treasure of stories for children available in English as well as various India languages.

UNMUKT: The annual student festival: First festival of the university, held in March 2013.. Apart from this, the event also showcased dance, music, drama and other cultural activities
