About College

Thangal Kunju Musaliar College of Engineering, is the first Government engineering college in Kerala. It is run by the TKM educational trust which was headed by Janab Shahal Hassan Musaliar.

  • It is established over an area of 2 Acres, it is located, in Karikode, on the Kollam- Chenkotta road
  • The campus is built in the Mughal architectural style and its foundation was laid in the year 1956 by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, The first President of Independent India
  • The college was inaugurated on 3rd July, 1958 by Prof. Humayun Kabir, the Minister for Scientific and Cultural Affairs, Govt. of India
  • The college has got Accredition by AICTE

  • Faculties have unique academic and industrial background, and foster the spirits to the students

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)

It was formed in August 1986, helps to benefit with the latest technical information and research, global networking, career opportunities and exclusive discounts on financial, educational and insurance products. It conducts seminars of technical interest, technical tours, meetings etc.

National Service Scheme (NSS)

It fosters education through Community Service encouraging students to build up their character.

IGNOU Centre

 

The TKM College Engineering is a study center of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The courses offered at this institute are:

a) Advanced Diploma in construction Management (ADCM) leading to B.Tech. Degree in Civil Engineering, Duration is four years.

b) Advanced Diploma in Water Resources Engineering (ADWRE) leading to B.Tech. Degree in Civil Engineering, Duration is four years.

Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE

It was started in 1998 with the purpose of enhancing their general skills.

Society of Student Architects (SSA)

It was started in 1985 for developing skills in the Architecture students.

Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IICE)

Its aim is to increase interactions between students and practicing engineers, to promote the ability of the students in seminar presentation, group discussion, debate, quiz and develop their personalities.

The T.K.M. College of Engineering Alumni Association

It was formed in 1963, to narrow the gap between the old students and the Institution.

 

Library:

  • Library & Information Centre (LIC), established with the inception of the college in 1958
  • It is subscribed to more than one hundred periodical and 10 Newspapers
  • Library follows the Anglo American cataloguing Rules II (with slight modifications) for Cataloguing and Dewey Decimal Scheme of Classification for the classification of books
  • With a view to address the above TKMCE has launched a digital library where the academic community can approach for satisfying their knowledge requirements

1.Capt. Vijayakumar Memorial Prize: - To the second best student of Civil Engineering Department.

2.Jacob Memorial Endowment Cash prize: -To the topper in Mechanical Engineering up to fifth semester in University examinations

3.K.A. George Memorial Gold Medal: - To the best outgoing student of Production Engineering branch.

4.Prof.S. A. H. Razvi Memorial Gold Medal: - To the student who stands first in final year B.Tech Degree Examination in Mechanical Engineering from this College.

Scholarship:

1.Cochin Chapter Scholarship: - Rs.5000/- per year each for one students

2.Dhahran Chapter Scholarship: - Rs.3000/- per year each for three students

3.District Merit Scholarship: - Awarded from the Special Officer for Scholarships, Trivandrum based on the National Talent Scholarship Test conducted by the above authority.

4.Fisheries Scholarship: - Awarded by the Director of Fisheries, Kollam, for fishermen's students.
