About College

Swami Vivekanand National Institute of Rehabilitation Training & Research, Cuttack, is an autonomous body under the Department of Disability Affairs, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The college caters the entire medical rehabilitation for any person with locomotor ailments. The college conducts three Bachelor degree courses in Prosthetics and Orthotics, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. It also offers two Postgraduate courses in Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy. The college was initially established with ALIMCO but on 22nd February 1984, the Institute was separated to give more emphasis on rural rehabilitation and to get autonomy. Its name was changed from NIPOT to National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research (NIRTAR) in 1984 and finally to Swami Vivekanand National Institute of Rehabilitation Training & Research (SVNIRTR) in the year 2004. It is one of the leading institutions in India that caters the comprehensive rehabilitation services to anyone with locomotor ailments.

Afterwards in 1987 it was converted to Diploma and after that it was converted to three and half year’s degree course in Prosthetics and Orthotics (BPO) in 1999. In 1987, the college started two courses in Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.
