About College

Pt. Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post-graduate (PG) Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak, often known as PGIMS is located in Haryana, India. The college has a great success story from the day of its inception. Beginning with a small hospital and a very small college they have grown to be an institute of speciality in post-graduation in medical sciences.

• The college was started in 1960 by the name of Medical College, Rohtak.
• As a part of the college’s objective it caters to provide consultation and medical assistance to needy patients, and does so very successfully.
• The college is continuing to expand in terms of both facility and better education.
• The college is at present headed by Dr. C. S. Dhull, the director of the college.
• Teachers, Deans, Lecturers, etc. are appointed by the rules which have been set by the Haryana Medical Education Service (Amendment) Rules, 2007.
• It was only in the year 1994 that Medical College, Rohtak was renamed as Pt. B.D.Sharma, Medical College, Rohtak after which the college was upgraded to a Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in the year 1995.

Infrastructure/Faculty

            The college has a great infrastructure and faculty both. In terms of infrastructure the college houses the following buildings:

• Multi-slice whole body CT Scan building
• De-addiction centre
• Dental College and Hospital
• Pharmacy College
• College of Nursing

The college has developed tremendously over the last 52 years in its manner of providing education and imparting knowledge.

• The college now has post-graduation programme in 6 different categories which includes MBBS, Nursing, MD/MS/Diploma, Pharmacy, etc.
• It excels in MBBS education and is very efficient in the manner of imparting knowledge to the students.
• The college has various departments like many other medical colleges. There are about 28 departments which include Surgery, Medicine, Nursing, ENT, Anatomy and others.

The college inspires other activities for all the students which are both fun and provide a learning experience. These are encouraged for the overall development of the students. Some of the college activities include:

• The students are encouraged to join sports and athletic during the time of their education. Facilities are provided for the same.
• The college also engages in literary events. They also have a college magazine and the department is known as Literary and Magazine(LAM) Club which organises various literary events each year.
• Apart from this the college has annual competition involving Art and Literature. The students organise it and the teachers encourage them.
• The college hosts a brilliant programme of enhancing cultural and social interaction among the staff and the students to fasten the academic growth if the students. This programme is called Metamorphosis.
• A similar programme organised by the college is Mission Excellence that attempts to enhance the academic and professional excellence that connects the entire faculty, residents and students providing them a platform for academic and research interaction.

The college has been growing ever since its inception. At present the college has a remarkably well developed campus with an area of 350acres of land. The institute, over the years, has developed an excellent organizational structure through its statutory and non-statutory authorities, resulting in excellence in all the fields of its existence.

Hostel

            The college provides for a within campus stay to all its students. The out-station students have to not worry about accommodation provided they are students of PGIMS. It has the following hostels:

Medical Facility

            Being a medical institute the college has a host of health care centres and a hospital within campus. The campus has an in house hospital with 1246 beds and other well-equipped facilities as required by any hospital.

Sports Infrastructure

            The college provides for excellent sports, athletic and recreational infrastructure. There are sports fields for outdoor games and athletics.

            The other facilities of the college include a dental college and hospital, De-addiction centre, 24-hrs ATM facility, Departmental Stores, Cafeteria etc.

The annual college festival is called Spardha and it is organised generally during the month of September. The college invites a number of other colleges and conducts various events for the students to participate in and win laurels.

Due to the remarkable success of the college in terms of administration, facilities, education and other infrastructural/support facility, the college has received accreditation from various places.
