About College

Archbishop Powathil Assumption Community College (APACC) was established in 2005 at Kottayam district of Kerala.In 2007, NAAC considered APACC “the jewel in the crown of Assumption”.APACC was registered as Akshaya Centre collaborating with the IT Mission, Govt. of Kerala and awarded for community education by Rotary International in 2008.In 2011 Assumption Day Care Centre was launched by APACC.Currently, ederation of Indian Women Entrepreneurs (FIWE) has been launched and Assumption Social Business Incubation Centre for Women also inaugurated by it in 2013.APACC also got registered with AWAKE Society(Assumption Women Association of Knac Entrepreneurial Charitable Society) in 2013.

  • (APACC) is a constituent of Assumption College.Assumption college is one of the best women's college in Kerela and affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University  of 2000 students in the campus.Assumption College HAD won the prestigious R Shankar Award from the Government of Kerala for the best college in the state in 1996-97, one of the first colleges to be honored so.
  • Archbishop Powathil Assumption Community College (APACC) is affiliated to Madras Centre for Research and Development of Community Education [MCRDCE] Chennai- the Co-ordinating Agency of all Community Colleges in India and created according to the policy adopted
  • The college recommended by the National Policy of Education(NPE) and UGC.It offers various diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate
  • The college has motive to inculcate the values of equality based on Christian ideals and provide education to the women for women empowerment and nation building
  • The faculty of Physical Education was started in the College in 1956

Library

  • The library was established in 1953 and inaugurated in 1994
  • Soul software from INFLIBNET and Campus Net are used in the library for doing all transactions
  • The library resources are met mainly from the UGC Grants, Management fund and P.T.A collection.

Electronic Information Centre

It includes:

  • 5 computers and a server with 160 GB with double Hard Disc
  • CD-Rom facility and Airtel Internet 24 hours connections are also available in the electronic library. In this library students can use CD Rom services, with the help of "Head phone with Mic" in each computer
  • OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) service available in the Library as well as in all the departments of the college.

Hostel

There are 6 hostels in the campus in which 600 students may reside:

  • Assumption Hostel – 150 Students
  • Vimala Hostel -135 Students
  • Amala Bhavan – 120 Students
  • St. Pius X -135 Students
  • Vijaya Bhavan – 130 Students
  • Jyothi Bhavan -120 Students

Auditorium

The college auditorium has 1000 seat capacity is used for small functions in the campus. The Kavukattu Hall has a capacity of 2000 seats and is used for functions involving the whole College.

Sports

There is Basket Ball Court, Volley Ball Court and Health & Fitness Centre for physical development of the students.

 

Extra Curricular Activities– The college organize various activities under the scheme of UGC like NCC,NSS,CSM, Youth Red Cross, Human Rights Cell and Women’s Cell. There are following extra-curricular activities undertaken recently:

  • The college is hosting a Health Club for the local community. It houses a gymnasium and is planning to offer training in yoga and aerobics. Health club is also maintaining a diet clinic run by the Home Science department
  • Department of Economics [Center for Socio-Economic Analysis] and Department of Social Work secured a tie up with Changanacherry Municipality for undertaking projects and our students are now working as facilitators in Ward Sabhas
  • N.S.S. is undertaking social works in three colonies under ‘Participation Villages’ Scheme
  • Assessment of Nutritional Status of women in Changanacherry and Creation of Nutritional awareness programme, conducted by Dept. of Home Science, included diet counselling to patients in District Hospital, Kottayam and nutrition education to Anganwadi Children at Mattom Colony, Changanacherry
  • Department of Home Science was selected by Govt. of Kerala to function as an incubation centre for the training of entrepreneurs in food processing industry

Vocational Service Award of District Public Image Committee & Rotary Club Changanacherry to Assumption College for its Meritorious Contributions in the field of Entrepreneurial Development of Women.

2013

The College has been selected as the Best College in Sports and Games by the Government of Kerala for the year 2013 and the Head of the Dept of Physical Education, Prof. Ninamma Thomas has been selected as the Best Physical Education Teacher for her excellent contributions in sports and games.

2012

College is honoured with 'Institutional Excellence Award' by 'All Kerala Catholic Congress, Archdiocesan Committee' for the Meritorious Contributions in the field of Higher Education in Kerala.

2009

P S Job Award-2009 from AIACHE for the most Innovative Programme in Colleges.

2008

College wins the prestigious Sr Hedwige’s National Award for the Best College, instituted by the Xavier Board of Higher Education in India. Winner of National Environmental Awareness Award instituted by Khadi and Village Industries Development agency of India, New Delhi.

2003

Dr. I’ma Neerakal, Dept. of Botany is honored with the Young Scientist Award by the Government of Kerala.

2001

College becomes the recipient of Kerala Governments R. Shankar Award for the Best College in the State.

Assumption College became the first recipient of the Award instituted by Kerala Sports Council for The Best College for Sports & Games.
