About College

College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences is spread in sprawling area of 147 hectares and is situated 5kmaway from Thrissur town at Mannuthy, kerala at the side of the NH47.The college follow the syllabus of the Council of Veterinary India from the year 1994 onwards. The Kerala Agricultural University took over this college as its constituent college.

1. Wide spectrum of Academic courses and programs:

The college offer Ph D Programmes, Master’s Degree Programmes and PG Diploma Programs, The Ph. D Program include Diary Science, Animal Breeding and Genetics, Livestock Production Management, Parasitology, etc.The Master’s Degree Programme include Master’s in Pharmology, Animal Reproduction, Poultry Science, Clinical Medicine, etc.PG Diploma has only two programmes i.e., Diary and Meat Technology.

2. Advanced studies centre

Animal genetics and breeding - Started in 1986 and presently have research potential in population and poultry genetics, goats and biometrical genitics, rabbit and cattle diary, conservation of germplasm of the native breeds and mutation research.

Poultry science - Started in 1985. Its major achievements include –5 ICAR Funded projects were completed, training programmes around 45 were conducted, Tukur Ram Avatar Singh award was achieved by the scientists, etc

Pathology - Started in 1987, the only centre in India for pathology. Primary activities are extension, research and teaching. The centre is the only centre, so despite other things it serves the entire state.

3. Sophisticated Research Activities:

The faculty targets for the Livestock and Poultry Production betterment in the research programme. For the state the Genetic improvement of the live stock were taken into consideration for better meat and egg production the improved variety of birds were introduced. The problem of managing the dogs and cattle and infertility were also taken up.

These are the names of some of their research units :- Small animal breeding station, university goat and sheep farm,rabbitary,university poultry and duck farm, Meat Technology Unit, University of Pig Farm,etc.
