About College

The Department of Law, Panjab University is one of the notable law institutes located in the greenest city of India – Chandigarh. The university was established at Lahore in the year 1889 and shifted to present Chandigarh campus in the year in 1959. The university has a strong history. The department of law produced many notable alumni since its establishment. It is counted amongst the top law colleges in the country.

                                  

  • The Department of Law is offering courses for Five Year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) and Three Year LL.B.
  • Intake capacities for several courses are – Bachelor of Law (3 Years) is 431, Master of Laws is 46.
  • Admission is through entrance test conducted by the university.
  • The university was originally founded at Lahore in the year 1889. And, in 1984 the university shifted to Shimla, again shifted to Jalandhar in the year 1950. Finally, the Panjab University relocated at present university campus – Chandigarh in 1959.
  • The Department of Law, Panjab University has multilateral agreement with several law associations namely European Law Student Association and Fancy Barristers, P.C., New York School.
  • The department has Asian Law Student Association (ALSA) to create new opportunities for its students during their study.
  • As per the curriculum of department, the LL.B. students must participate in 2 Moot Courts in District Courts for 7 to 10 Days. It provides an opportunity to the students to interact with prominent academicians, advocates and judges.
  • The Department of Law publishes periodically a Law Journal known as Panjab University Law Review.
  • To improve the knowledge of students, the faculty organizes guest lecturer’s session by well-known personals such as Professor Upinder Bakshi, Justice V.K. Krishna Iyer, Justice J.S. Verma and Justice V.S. Deshpande.
  • The department has Eight Professors, Seven Assistant Professors and 8 Part-time Teaches.
  • The department of law offers an excellent job placement.
  • Passed out law students are placed in many national and international law firms through the placement cell of department.


For its academic excellence, the Department of Law, Panjab University is counted among the top legal colleges in the country. The department offers –

The department also has many research scholars.

 

The Department of Law also established Moot Court Hall to practice different court activities by the students. Seminars, Conferences, Presentations and Moot Court Competition are organized periodically.

These activities are organized with the aim to improve the professional skills of the students.

The university provides hostels accommodation to its national and international students. There are –

LAW FEST is a grand annual cultural fest celebrated in the department of law, Panjab University. Events during the fest are –

•    Deep Chand- Lal Chand Memorial stipend (Only ONE) is given to the students of Laws according to their academic performance.
