About College

Andhra Loyola College popularly known as  Loyola College is affiliated to Krishna University and in 1988, the college was accredited for the Degree-level programmes by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The college was re-accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore with Grade in the year 2008. The college offers   Intermediate (+2) , undergraduates , postgraduates and research programmes in the field of Arts, Science and Commerce.

The college  was founded in the year 1953 by  Catholic bishops of Andhra Pradesh and started its academic  sessions in July 1954. The college was established, due to the need of higher education after independence in Vijayawada, on a 110-acre land.

Some of the facts related to the college:

  • The college is managed by the Society of Jesus, a Catholic religious order and , Rev Fr Theo Mathias, SJ as its first principal.
  • In 1988, the college won the autonomous status due to its excellent contribution to education and to experiment and innovation, introducing more practical combination of courses as well as job-oriented ones  for  the needs of the society and academic excellance
  • In 2003-2004, the college celebrated its golden jubilee.
  • In 2004, the college was recognized by the UGC as a ‘College with Potential for Excellence' (CPE) and become one of the 47 colleges in India which, in the first phase of the CPE.
  •  In 2009 it had evolved as a specific department in the college as "Visual communication and electronic media.

Goals of the college:

  • To develop the social and spiritual values in the students
  • To fulfill the needs of socially and economic backward students

Facilities:

Library

  • The college has spacious library building of  5000 square ft.
  •  The college has world  6th largest digital library and it has Computer Centre (FIT Lab)
  • There are 83,700 volumes, 63,800 Textbooks, 18,000 reference books and 1818 CDs for e-learning

Computer  Lab

College has 120 systems connected through LAN, and 25 licensed software packages are available.

Kaladarshini

It is a school of arts offering  music (Vocal and Instrumental), painting, and dance (Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam) and annual cultural event, Kaladarshini Cultural Festival.

Viscom Studios

These are fully equipped Visual Communication Audio and Video Studios.

Sports

It include cricket field, a hockey field, 4 volleyball courts, 2 basketball courts, 1 handball court, 3 lawn tennis courts, 4 table tennis tables, a ball badminton court, 4 shuttle badminton courts (indoor) and 1 multi-gym in a spacious indoor stadium

 

Extra-Curricular Activities- The college has various department for organizing co-curricular activities. Some of the activities are :

  • The Departmental Associations organise co-curricular activities like science exhibitions, industrial visits, guest lectures and cultural activities.
  • SPHOORTI, a cultural festival organized for the Degree students to bring out their hidden talents through inter-collegiate competitions
  • The college organize various activities under  NCC, NSS and NGS(National Green Corps). NCC has 4 wings-Army, Navy, Air Wing, and Remount & Veterinary Regiment and NGS and NSS has 3 wings.

Organisations of the College

HESPAN (Higher Education for Persons with Special Needs)

It provides education to visually challenged students through computer training in JAWS & KURZVEIL, scribes assistance during examinations, recording of class notes through HEPSN volunteers, facilities for newspaper reading, supply of Braille books, computers, and CD players.

JKS

Under JKS college provide guidance and counselling to students related to their career and problems.

EWYLP( Earn While You Learn Programme)

It gives hand on experience for taking jobs in futre and  achieve better work efficiency.

Mentoring

Mentor  enhance capability of the students and record each student’s profile  and monitor their academic growth

 

Scholarship

Government of Andhra Pradesh 

 

It provides assistance to ST/SC/BC/EBC/DW students whose parental income is less than 1 lakhs and minority students whose parental income is less than 2 lakhs.

Merit Scholarships

The college gives scholarship to the students who have secured highest marks in the Intermidiate
