About College

MLCU is the first full-fledged Christian university in Meghalaya. It was established in 2005 with the aim of contributing to the sustainable development of Meghalaya and North-East India. It’s another aim is to uphold and preserve its cultural heritage.

  • It provides high-quality education to its students to transform them into global citizens.
  • With all the courses being job-oriented, MLCU prepares its students to meet the challenges and requirements of the present day workplace.
  • It renders services to the society as well.
  • It is sponsored by the National Lutheran Health and Medical Board of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church of India and the Khasi-Jaintia Presbyterian Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of India.
  • In the coming future it will collaborate with the government, NGOs, community organization, self-help groups and industry in the development of the community.

MLCU Act-

  • The university was created under the Act No. 11 of 2005 of the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya.
  • The creation of the university is in accordance with the University Grant Commission Act, 1956 under Section 2(f)
  • It is empowered to grant degrees under Section 22 of the UGC Act.

Location- It is located at KJPA Conference Centre, Central Ward, in Shillong. It also has other branches in Tura, Jowai and Nongtalang. It is spreading education in different parts of the North-East.

A message from the Chancellor of the university – “We will respect scholarly rules and endeavour to set the highest standards in higher education, we will not leave the focus on sustainability- a term that arises in response to a potential environmental and human disaster.”



The courses are planned in such a way that it not only helps the students in acquiring knowledge and skills but also the real-life expertise which are helpful in pursuing gainful and long-lasting carriers. It emphasizes on the experiential learning and offers hands-on projects to its students. It provides a number of under-graduate, post-graduate, M.Phil and Ph.D. courses under the following categories-

Art Courses-

  • B.A. (Music Vocal)
  • B.S.W.

Medical Courses-

  • B.Sc. (Medical Imaging Technology)
  • B.Sc. (Medical Laboratory Technology)
  • B.Sc. (Physician Assistant)

Science Courses-

  • B.Sc. (Optometry)
  • B.Sc. (Psychology)

Management Courses-

  • B.B.A.

Information Technology Courses-

  • B.C.A.


Apart from focusing on the education of its students, the university organizes different and programs and events as well to keep the students entertained. These events are held yearly and encourage students’ participation. The motive behind this is to refresh the minds of their students from time to time to improve their overall performance. Some of the main events of the university are-

  • University Week is held from time to time in which sports, dance, music and other different types of programs are organized. It is planned and executed completely by the students and is a fun affair.
  • Art Appreciation event is there which brings out the artistic sides of the students.
  • Different cultural and environmental workshops are organized to impart some extra knowledge to the students.

The Mawpun Village Adoption is a one famous step by the university which brought it in the attention of public.





A good university is also known for the facilities it provides to its students so that they can pursue their studies with comfort. As the students are away from their homes, proper care needs to be taken of them and these facilities are given to make the students feel at home.

Hostel- The most important thing that the students needs when studying in a university is proper accommodation facility and Martin Luther Christian University, MLCU has made sure of that.
•    Hostel facility is available for both boys and girls.
•    Every hostel is having mess facility which makes sure that every student is getting healthy and hygienic food.
•    Mess fee per month.

Hospital- the University takes a good care of the health of the students. Three hospitals are there with qualified doctors to look after the students and other members of the university-

•    Woodland Hospital
•    Bansara Eye Clinic

Career Counseling- MLCU also provides Career counseling for the holistic development of students. Through the Counseling Psychology Department, career counselors help evaluate students' abilities, interests and personalities to develop realistic academic and career goals. They use interviews, counseling sessions and structured culturally sensitive psychological tests to evaluate career interests and potential of students.

MLCU also focuses on fieldwork other than imparting theoretical knowledge so as to familiarize students with the world of work and their role as global citizens. Students are engaged in activities related to disaster Management, traditional medicines, HIV/AIDS awareness







The fee structure of MLCU is as follows-

Under-Graduate Courses-

  • The fee for 1st semester ranges from Rs.29500-Rs.46,000.
  • The fee for the rest semesters ranges from Rs.16,500-Rs.3100.

Post-Graduate Courses-

  • Master in Business Administration (MBA) – Rs.60,500 per semester.
  • Master in Computer Application (MCA) – Rs.62,500 per semester.

Ph.D. Courses-

  • The fee for all P.HD courses is Rs.25,000 per year.

Diploma Courses-

  • Diploma in Computer Application – Rs.19,000.
  • Diploma in Rural Marketing – Rs.19,000.
  • Diploma in Hardware and Networking – Rs.27,000 (1st Sem) & Rs.14,000 (2nd Sem)


The University is providing various scholarships to make it easy for the students to study here. The scholarships provided are-

  • Bluebell Reade Standal Syiem Scholarship Fund  -  for a rural female student
  • Dr Helen Giri Scholarship Fund -  for promotion for Music     
  • Queensilies & Jwinsilies Scholarship Fund - for a female student of Allied Health Sciences
  • Elder T. E. Diengdoh Scholarship Fund
  • Dr Rajaratnam Scholarship Fund
