About College

Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LRUVAS) is a state university was established in 2010 by Govt. of Haryana. The new University has been named in the cherished memory of Lala Lajpat Rai, a great patriot, the foremost freedom fighter. The College of Veterinary Sciences and the College of Animal Sciences, earlier the constituent colleges of CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar has now been incorporated in this newly established University. The University has been playing a crucial role in the development of livestock sector as an instrument of rural development through its multifarious activities. It is located at Hisar, Haryana. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate in Veterinary and Animal science. It is recognized by UGC.

Research

The University undertakes research in different areas of livestock and poultry production and health management. The university fulfills its research mandate through 63 research schemes operating in several departments or disciplines.

Animal Production

  • Genetic improvement, conservation, management and nutritional requirements, feeding practices of Hariana cattle, Murrah buffaloes, Munjal sheep and Beetal/Jakhrana goats production.
  • Identification and detoxification of toxic constituents in different livestock and poultry feeding stuffs.
  • To develop economically viable livestock farming system under different agro-climatic and socio-economic conditions.
  • Application of cutting edge technologies for processing, production, preservation, packaging and marketing of milk, meat and value added products for domestic and international market.
  • Strengthening of research extension linkages for effective technology transfer and feed back in animal production systems.

Animal Health

  • Integrated groups of scientists formed for surveillance of diseases of buffaloes, cattle and poultry in Haryana, development of disease forecasting system and parasitic disease investigations.
  • Development of immunodiagnostics for HS (Haemorrhagic scepticaemia) for monitoring of vaccination failures.
  • Development and application of PCR-based diagnostic method for clinical diagnosis of trypanosomosis (surra) in buffaloes.
  • Diagnosis and immunoprophylaxis of bovine babesiosis in buffaloes.
  • Enterobacterial pathogens of public health significance in relation to foods of animal origin.

Achievements

Animal Production

  • Breaking in practices for seasonal breeding in buffaloes was developed
  • Feeding and management practices for different livestock and poultry species were developed and transferred to field functionaries
  • Mineral studies of livestock in Yanuma nagar, Ambala, Karnal, Kurulshetra and Panipat districts were undertaken and levels of deficiencies were identified
  • Technologies for complete feed and multi-nutrient lick block production for cattle and buffalo were developed
  • Balance compound feeds using agro-industrial bio-products were developed for different livestock species

Animal Health

  • Blue tongue and rotavirus genes were sequenced and the gene sequences were deposited in Gen Bank
  • Developed RT-PCR based diagnosis for blue tongue virus in semen and blood of breeding bulls
  • Developed field spot test for detection of urea and milk
  • Developed field diagnostic test for HS in cattle and buffaloes

      This University has organized departments with well qualified faculty and modern laboratory infrastructure suitable for practical training of veterinary professionals. It provides round the clock service for treatment and care of the sick animals. In addition, the Ambulatory Clinics provides services to the animals of some of the adjoining villages.
