About College

Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DA-IICT), Gandhinagar was established in 2001. It is a technological named after the Gujarati entrepreneur and Reliance group founder Dhirubhai Ambani.

  • An act of the Gujarat Legislature provided for the establishment of the DA-IICT and conferred on it the status of a university. (Gujarat Government Gazette Volume XLIV, Thursday, 6 March, 2003).
  • On 30 November 2004, the DA-IICT as a private university was included in the list of universities maintained by the University Grants Commission under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956.
  • DA-IICT is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as approved by the AIU in its 84th Annual Meeting held during 12-14 November 2009.
  • It is located near Indroda Circle, in the famous Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
  • It has been recognized by the UGC. It is really a superb achievement for an institute.
  • The DA-IICT is also representing Wave 4 of the innovation regarding the education in Gujarat.
  • The institute is a non-affiliating university and does not receive any aid or other financial assistance from the Central or State Government.

Research:

Research and related activities at the institute constitute three broad categories:

  • Sponsored research activity requires the handing over of agreed-upon deliverables to the sponsoring agency or company. 

  • Consultancy work by faculty members is also encouraged. Based on the specific technical expertise of a faculty member, an external agency engages his/her services for a specified period of time, or for specific assignment.

  • Basic research carried out by faculty members is based primarily on their own interest and initiative. This type of research usually results in research publications in international journals and/or conferences.

Sports and Cultural Activities:

  • Synapse (Annual Techno-Cultural Festival): A festival of knowledge and culture that held generally in February-March each year. It links together different knowledge networks and reinforces the significance of Information, Innovation, Interaction, Communication, and Technology in the 21st century through the agencies of panel discussions, lectures, workshops, exhibitions, and exciting competitive events.
  • Sports: The Sports complex has three Badminton courts & four table tennis tables. Resources for other indoor games like carroms, chess are also available. There are two basketball courts & two volleyball courts adjacent to the football and cricket ground. The college teams of Football, Basketball, Volleyball, and Cricket participate in various local and national level tournaments.

Cultural Activities: The cultural events can be broadly classified into competitions, festivals, workshops and celebrity shows. The committee aims to bring talent in all the possible forms whether it's music, dance, literary skills, theatre, sketching, or other fine art styles. In order to showcase these talents, various competitions like 'Sangeet Sandhya', 'Dance Nite', 'Drama Nite', 'Rangoli' are calendared throughout the year.

Students Clubs:

  • Aryans: Aryans provides a platform to enrich the concepts of computer software and hardware. 
  • Electronics Hobby Center: The electronics hobby center is the place to join if you are a hardware freak. The centre has its own e-magazine, lectures and discussions and it also has its own labs with Cathode Ray Oscilloscopes, Function Generators and other lab equipments.
  • Film Club: The Film Club occupies a special place in every student's heart. It has been a trend that every fresher in the college would join the Film Club. The Film Club has a wide range of movies - 140 English, 70 Hindi, and 25 Other - bears ample testimony to the fact the club can boast not only of quantity but also of quality. Keeping all interests in mind, the club has something for each of its members.
  • Forward Forum: With a focus on socio-political topics, the forum is an attempt to expose the student community to non-mainstream perspectives, and to initiate a dialogue on the current zeitgeist.
  • French Club: French Club was started in 2004. It holds French classes in association with Alliance Francaise (Ahmedabad) for level 1 (Beginners) and level 2 (advanced) each year.
  • Prayaas: Prayaas is an effort to unite the diverse skills of DA-IICTians to put them at the service of society. It’s not a social service group but a social assistance organization that assists the underprivileged members of society in every manner it can.
  • Radio DA-IICT: Any Radio is lifeless without the RJ and though the EHC can claim to have built the radio, it is the Radio DA-IICT core team that gave it soul with music from Nickleback and Pink Floyd to Ravi Shankar and Tata Young.
  • Theatre Group: The group was born in the August of 2004. The stimulus was provided by the Budhan Theatre Group, a group from Ahmedabad, which performed a couple of Street Plays in DA-IICT, courtesy Prof. Ganesh Devy. Prof. Binita Desai gathered a zealous bunch of students keen on the idea of forming a theatre group. DA-IICT have been placed very well and they are getting very good recognition in all the places that they are visiting.

Facilities:-

Environment: Environment is an integral part of any University. The students need to have clean and calm atmosphere.

  • There is a fantastic garden with 2566 trees of varieties.
  • "Preserving the Environment" is the aim objective.
  • The area of the lawn is about 50, 000 square meters.
  • The concrete has been masked with almost 3400 bamboos.
  • The rainwater is not at all wasted and also the irrigation is done through the recycled water.

Library: The college has a state-of-the-art library along with an impressive collection of 1,64,603 full-text articles from a large number of magazines, journals, and conference proceedings

Women's Cell: Special care has been taken to protect the girls and the other females present in the University.

  • To ease the option to work together (man and woman), a very friendly and affable environment has been provided for.
  • A keen eye has been kept on the various dangers that female students may have to face (matters relating to sexual harassment and the like).

      The placement opportunities are emphel. DA-IICT stands 6th in placment in the nation amongst other prime engineering college.The system is to give grades to the company A,B,C grades. Placement almost 98% student are placed.
