About College

It is a vital aspect for any nation’s development to have a sound foreign trade expertise to strengthen the export business of the nation. India too, looks to do that through its various institutes of foreign trade and in the esteemed list of such institutes, a place is deserved by the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade- Delhi.

  • It is an autonomous public business school established in 1963 by the Government of India (Ministry of Commerce and Industry) to help professionalize the country's foreign trade management and increase exports
  • It has been given the status of a Deemed University by the UGC under section 3 of the 1956 UGC Act.
  • The purpose of setting up this institution was to assist the government to change the country’s foreign trade management by making it more professionally oriented and hence increase exports
  • The institute situated in the surrounding area of JNU, IIT- Delhi and has a sprawling area of over 6 acres
  • It has taken up various exceptional research works with international organizations like the WTO, UNCTAD etc
  • The institute also takes pride in training a massive 40, 000 and more professionals across many countries in a variety of international business and trade policy.
  • The institute also offers specialized courses to the students so as to make them equipped with all the knowledge of the foreign trade and be able to make a stand in life. The flagship program offered at institute is MBA in International Business
  • Adding to that, it has also provided consultations to the big names in the business field including FICCI, CII, FIEO, CID, Harvard University, European Union Office, USAID etc
  • IIFT has student and faculty Exchange Programs with some international institutions like-  Bocconi University (Milano, Italy),International University in Geneva (Geneva, Switzerland), Pamplin College of Business, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Blacksburg, Virginia, United States), Grenoble école de management (Grenoble, France) etc

Academic: Except its academic programs IIFT also has some centers of excellence which promote the studies in various fields of international trade. These centers are-

  • Centre for International Trade in Technology
  • Centre for WTO Studies
  • Centre for SME (Small & Medium Enterprises) Studies

Extracurricular: There is an official representative student body called International Management Forum (IMF) which acts as a coordinator for, and provides administrative support to, various student activities and events at IIFT.

The institute has the following clubs on campus to organize various extracurricular activities-

Publications: The students of the MBA (IB) course also issue five monthly magazines:

Facilities: Sumptuous facilities abound in the IIFT-Delhi campus. Some of them are described below-

Hostel

 

Quality accommodation facilities are being made available to the student on the campus having state of the art amenities in all the rooms.

  • Hostel facilities of the supreme class are provided to the residential students of MBA and Management Development Programs. The hostel is equipped with 2 Mbps internet connectivity
  • Separate hostel blocks for girl students are provided on the institute campus

Library

 

Having a good, equipped library is very essential for any institution and the IIFT-Delhi does have a superb library.

  • The library is one of the largest ones in the developing nations having around 84, 000 volumes and subscribing up to 800 journals
  • The library also boasts of a rare collection of IMF, FAO, OECD, UNCTC, UNCTAD, World Bank, and many other global agencies’ publications. It also provides assistance to the students who can access the databases like NIC, India Trades, CMIE, World Bank Indicators, and so on.
  • They can also take help from the many audio and video and audio-visual help
  • A WTO Resource Center has also been established in the library which focuses only on the issues related to WTO.
  • There is also a library plus a reading room which remains open all the time and is situated on the hostel premises.

Computer Center

 

The Computer Center of the IIFT- Delhi is an amazing resource center for the students and staff having the best IT infrastructure. The facilities that are provided by the Computer Center are:

Festivals: The Institute also conducts Trade Winds, the flagship event of IIFT for corporate interactions, and the annual management festival Quo Vadis

Quo Vadis- Quo Vadis, the Annual Management and Cultural Festival at the Indian Institute of Foreign trade is held annually in the month of November, The festival provides students a platform to showcase their business acumen and apply their classroom pedagogies in real life.
