About College

The Indian Institute of Technology in Guwahati was established in 1994 as the 6th member in the esteemed list of IITs in the country. Presently, the IIT-G has 11 departments and also 6 academic centers that are inter-disciplinary in nature.

Guwahati's campus is on a sprawling 285 hectares plot of land. The 74,000 square metre Academic Complex holds centres, academic departments, laboratories, classrooms, etc.

The institute has proven to be dreams come true for the people of Assam and especially the student community who no longer have to travel far distances to avail quality IT education.

It has brought cheers & made proud to Indian institutions by occupying a place amongst the best 100 universities of the world by Times Higher Education Magazine.

IIT Guwahati has been placed 87th in the ranking that analyzed 800 new-breed universities from 29 countries, including the US and the UK.

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati is located just on the outskirts of the city of Guwahati and is well connected to other parts of the country by road, rail or air. There are direct air services from/to Mumbai, New Delhi, and Kolkata with connectivity to all major cities in the country and direct train services from/to all the metropolis and other major cities.

The institute is located around 20 km from the heart of the city and around 40 min. drive from the airport. To reach the institute from the city, there is an Institute bus service that runs regularly to and from the city.
