Assam University is a public central university that was established in 1994 under Assam (Central) University Act, 1989. It is recognized by UGC and is accredited by NAAC. The campus of the college is spread over an area of 600 acres in Silchar, Assam.

Assam University is UGC recognized and grade 'B' accreditation by NAAC. This is very disciplined, well cultured and clean University. It along with studies, sports and other cultural activities are also entertained. Hostel accommodation is good enough. Placements are also done every year from different places and different companies. There are so many activities like Seminars on Educational topics as well as General awareness. Which makes it a wholesome new experience. Most of the faculty comprises of M.Phil. and Ph.D. holders.
