About College

St. Xaviers College is an autonomous institute under University of Mumbai, started in year 1869 under the name of Spanish saint ’Francis Xavier’. The institute is design in Indo-Gothic architecture.

• College is ranked ‘A+’ grade by NAAC
• College is spread over 2.94 acres in South Mumbai fort locality.
• It runs various two year junior college courses, under graduate, post graduate and certificate courses.
• At first college was begun as art college then in 1920s science department was established later on other departments were added.

Alumni and Popular culture: College buildings were used for various films like Jaane Tu…. Ya Jaane Na, Main Hoon Naa, KucCh Toh Hai and Munna Bhai MBBS.

Facilities:

Hostel: College has small hostel for senior male students which can accommodate 60 students.

Library: College library consist of over 133489 books out of which half are reference books. College library also subscribe to 62 national and 14 international journals and 6000 periodicals.

 Audio-Visual Centre: College has two audio-visual centres, the Smith Centre for Audio-Visual Instruction (SCAVI), with a seating capacity of 100, and the Multi-Media Room (MMR), with a seating capacity of 110.

Class rooms: Class rooms have IT enabled accessories, fiberglass boards and pull down screens.

Counseling Centre: Counseling centre was founded in year 1954 in order to provide information on various studies, professions in India and abroad.

Festivals:

Malhar: It is the most popular college fest in Mumbai. It is an Inter college festival started 35 years ago. In this fest over 60 colleges participate in 30 events.
