About College

Guru Nanak College was established in 1970 to mark the 500th birth anniversary of the Holy Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak. It comes from the Sikh Minority Degree College and is governed by Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee. The main objective of the college was to create a plinth that can impart knowledge, as well as value based education in the young, energetic youth of Dhanbad. It stresses upon moral education to the earnest so that along the everyday jobs of earning livelihood, their students also earn respect and praises for being ethical. In the year 1997, the campus of boys was shifted to Bhuda, which is 4 km away from the town and penetrates in the tribal area, to promote education among the tribal population. This has been a success, since around 2000 students have enrolled in various courses. The college also has a wing for vocational studies.The college is also making ICT technologies available for students in order to make the education technological-friendly.

  • Premises of IGNOU Study Centre: IGNOU was established with an aim to provide distance learning quality education at less cost. An IGNOU Study Center is at girl wings of Guru Nanak College, Bank More, Dhanbad
  • A Separate Women's Wing: Apart from the main building in Bhuda, a separate wing for women (Est. 2000) is established in Bank More Campus of the College. It is meant for exclusive teaching of girls and has garnered a lot of reputation and a sense of security from parents and guardians. This wing is operated only in the morning hours, keeping in mind of the safety of women and ladies.
  • Vocational Courses Are Also Given Prominence: There is also an availability of vocational courses, in a separate wing. From 2001, it has provided a platform and opportunities to those students who want to opt for other courses and are not interested in conventional studies. It is also situated in the Bank More Campus of the college.
  • Achievements and Accolades:  Won overall championship prize in the youth festival “Pratibimb” organised by Visthapith College, Balidih Bokaro in the year 2011. The college is famous for their aesthetics and won the first prize in one play act, classical vocal, skit, instrumental tabla, clay modelling and rangoli  in the youth festival “Jhumar” organised by the P.G department, VBU Hazaribag.
