About College

The Malad Education and Medical Trust obtained the affiliation to start a College in Malad in 1979. The College is located at Bhandarwada, about 1.25 kilometers from the Malad Railway station. 

  • In the year 1980 the college was shifted to NL High School premises for one year.  During the same year the College was permitted to start Junior College both Commerce and Arts Stream. 
  • In 1981 the college was again shifted to the present place that is Bhandarwada Gowthan Road, Rajanpada, Malad (West), Mumbai.
  • The Malad Education and Medical Trust obtained the affiliation to start a College in Malad in 1979.
  • In the year 1980 the college was shifted to NL High School premises for one year.
  • During the same year the College was permitted to start Junior College both Commerce and Arts Stream.
  • In 1981 the college was again shifted to the present place that is Bhandarwada Gowthan Road, Rajanpada, Malad (West), Mumbai.
  • During the year 1981-1982 there were only four divisions of F.Y.J.C. Commerce and four divisions of S.Y.J.C.Commerce with one division of each F.Y.J.C and S.Y.J.C.Arts.
  • The total strength of the college was 900 students.
  • In 1984 there was a change in the Management .The College was taken over by Marwari Vidyalaya Trust having their office at Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Road, Prarthna Samaj Mumbai.
  • The trustees of Marwari Vidyalaya, Men of Steel and Vision with their ideas , their immense energy their foresight their deep commit took the formidable task transforming the old college into a college to reckon with and renamed it as the Marwari Vidyalaya Sanchalit “Smt. Kamaladevi Gauridutt Mittal College of Arts & Commerce.
  • In 1992 the College has been accorded a minority Status by the statutory authorities and has been granted permanent affiliation with effect from 1999-2000.
  • The trustees of Marwari Vidyalaya, Men of Steel and Vision with their ideas, their immense energy their foresight their deep commit took the formidable task transforming the old college into a college to reckon with and renamed it as the Marwari Vidyalaya Sanchalit “Smt. Kamaladevi Gauridutt Mittal College of Arts & Commerce. 
  • In 1992 the College has been accorded a minority Status by the statutory authorities and has been granted permanent affiliation with effect from 1999-2000.
  • The College has expanded to accommodate 3500 students attending the classes in two shifts.  This institution has carved a niche for itself in the suburbs. 
  • Over the years, the Managements trust for quality and job orientation education has borne fruit. 
  • The College has been awarded B+ grade by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (Bangalore).
  • The College is affiliated to the University of Mumbai in the faculty of Commerce and is also is recognized by the Government of Maharashtra for conducting Junior College in the faculty of Commerce.

Smt. Kamaladevi Gauridutt Mittal College of Arts and Commerce is affiliated to the University of Mumbai in the faculty of Commerce and is also is recognized by the Government of Maharashtra for conducting Junior College in the faculty of Commerce.

The College arranges intercollegiate cultural festival every year. Students of other colleges participate in the said festival. The cultural committee also celebrates the college annual Day function in which students talents have been exhibited.

For the all round development of the students, different committees are being formed under the chairman ship of the concerned lecturers. Following committees have been constituted for every three years.

INFRASTRUCTURE

The College is located at Bhandarwada, about 1.25 kilometers from the Malad Railway station. 

  •  It is a five stored building with ample space for parking. 
  • There are about 32 lecture halls of 800sq.ft each.  
  • Each lecture halls is equipped with benches for students, table and chairs for the teachers.
  • There are two air condition staff common rooms for the teachers and independent cabins for Principal, Vice-Principal, and Supervisor etc.
  • College has a canteen at the ground floor of the building.
  • Tea, coffee, cold drinks and snacks are made available to the students and the staff at a subsidized rate. 
  • The College has teaching equipments like overhead projectors, LCD projectors, audio visual rooms, for the benefit of the students.  
  • The College has good and new furniture for the use of the students and the staff.
  • The College is equipped with a spacious staff common room fully air conditioned.
  • The College provides clean cold drinking water for all the students and staff.

 

GIRLS COMMON ROOM

Common Room for girls is provided in the second floor attached with toilet and other amenities.

   

COMPUTERS  

Computers with printers have been provided in the staff room, library different departments, Principals and Vice-Principals cabin, office and in the examination hall. 

  • These computers have been intensively used for college administration academic work and for the library.   
  • Reading Room Facilities - The College Library provides reading room facilities to the students. Night reading Room facility has also been provided in the basement of the College for the benefit of the students staying in the vicinity of the college and the students staying in the slums.    
  • Even outside students are also allowed to take the benefit of this facility.

 

LIBRARY

The College Library is housed in the first floor of the College building. This is exclusively used by the students and the staff of the aided section both Degree and Junior College. 

  • The Library has the collection of CD –ROMs, Journals, reference books, encyclopedias, text books, newspapers etc.
  • The College has appointed qualified Librarian, Library Clerks and Library Attendants.   
  • Two Computers with internet facilities have been provided for the benefit of the students and the staff. 
  •  A reading room with a reader’s capacity of 100 students has been attached to the library for the students.  
  • A separate cabin with necessary infrastructure has been arranged in the library for the faculty members.
  • A separate library is made available for the undergraduate students studying in self financing courses like BMS, BSC IT and BMM. 
  • This library has also the collection of CD- ROMs, Journals, reference books, encyclopedias, text books, newspapers etc.
  • A Book Bank Scheme has been introduced for the needy and deserving students. 
  • A full set of Text books is made available for the academic year. 
  • Book bank scheme operates from the resources, funds generated from College Alumni , Parents Teachers Association and outsiders

 

NCC & NSS

The College has a NCC Unit under a teaching staff in which students of all courses enroll.  They are made to attend the parades at different colleges as per the schedule. 

  • They also participate in the NCC parade on 15th August and 26thJan every year. 
  • The NCC cadets after completing the required numbers of hours of training are awarded 10 grace marks which will enhance their examination performance.
  •  The college on an average enrolls about 100 students under NCC every year. 
  • The College NSS unit is working under the NSS programme officer (permanent teacher).
  • The College enrolls about 100 students under this Social Service Scheme.
  • The students under take activities like traffic control , beach cleaning , hospital visit , blood donation camp, medical camp, slum cleanliness drive etc. under this scheme. 
  • They are entitled for some monetary reward for undertaking these activities and will have to complete 120 hrs of services in a year. 
  • They are also awarded 10 grace marks for the enhancement of their examination result .  The NSS unit goes for a residential camp for a period of 10 days every year in some rural areas and undertakes various social service schemes for the residents of the village.

 

SPORTS & PHYSICAL EDUCATION

 The College has appointed a full time Physical Director. 

  • The student are trained for various sports events like running , jumping , football, cricket, Kabbadi , base ball , basket ball , High jump , long jump , discus throw , short put etc.
  • They participate in various sports events organized by the University of Mumbai and other Colleges. 
  • The Colleges encourages the students to participate in sports events by giving them fee concession, free books, and extra coaching. Every year students bring many prizes.

 

GYMKHANA

The College Gymkhana is situated on the ground floor of the building covering an area of 900 sq. ft. under the chairman ship of a full time permanent lecturer and an attendant.

  • It remains open for the students and the staff from morning to evening.
  • Indoor games items like carom, chess, table tennis etc. are made available.  
  • The Gymkhana is also equipped with Health Club Equipments.

 

AUDIO VISUAL CLASSROOM

The College has teaching equipments like overhead projectors, LCD projectors, audio visual rooms, for the benefit of the students. The College has good and new furniture for the use of the students and the staff

 

RESEARCH & CAREER ADVANCEMENT

The institution gives utmost importance for the faculty improvement. Faculties have been encouraged to attend various refresher courses, orientation courses so as to update them according to the current scenario.

  • Special reading /reference facility have been given in the College for the faculty engaged in research. 
  • Books and journals are subscribed specially for such researchers. 
  • Duty concession, adjustment in daily time table has been extended for the teachers involved in research. 
  • Advance increments have been granted as per the government norms for M.Phil, PhD degree holders. 
  • Seminars and workshops have been arranged in the College on Research Methodology for the benefit of the faculty registering for the PhD Degree. 
  • Teachers are also encouraged to go for M.Phil degree and other diploma in various fields. 
  • Non-teaching staff of the College have been encouraged to improve their academic qualification necessary concessions have been given as an inducement for the improvement for their academic standard. Further promotion has been granted on the basis seniority cum merit.


The College cultural Committee chaired by the concerned lecturer participates in various cultural activities so as to enable the students to know about the rich heritage of this country. 

Under this committee observe the Days like Black & White Day, Rose Day, Sari Day, Tie Day, Jeans Day, Éclair Day, and Friendship Day etc. are observed from time to time.

The committee trains the students to participate in the intercollegiate cultural festivals.  The student participates in dramas, street play, dances etc. organized by this college and other colleges. The College arranges intercollegiate cultural festival every year. Students of other colleges participate in the said festival.  The cultural committee also celebrates the college Annual Day function in which students talents have been exhibited.
