Been there, done that. Definitely go with someone who knows the iGaming space — regular devs just don’t get the compliance issues, payment setups, or the insane loading speeds needed for live odds. We wasted months on a generic team before switching to a niche agency.
I’m helping a friend set up a sports betting site and we’re trying to figure out where to start with the design and dev side. Is it better to go with a general dev agency or one that focuses on iGaming? Curious what pitfalls to expect too.

Same story here. We tried freelancers first, but scaling the platform and keeping it stable under traffic was a nightmare. Eventually went with a team that specializes in iGaming design + dev — they built our casino site with all the tricky bits sorted (KYC, integrations, mobile-first, etc.). If you're still looking, check this out: https://igaming-seo.agency/igaming-website-design-development/ — they do end-to-end development specifically for gambling businesses. Helped us go live way faster than expected and the UX is spot on.
