About College
This is one of the Best Universities in the overall Punjab region. Presently, Thapar University is recognized among the foremost privately managed engineering institutions of the country and the best of its kind in the North-Western Region of India.
- It has been recognized by the UGC.
- It has been approved by the AICTE.
- It was founded in the year 1956.
- It was set up by the Late Lala Karam Chand Thapar of the Thapar Group of companies.
- The University came into being as a consequence of the collaboration between East Punjab States Union (PEPSU), the Central Government and the Patiala Technical Education Trust (PTET) along with the then State of Patiala.
- Before the year 2007, it was known as Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology.
- It is one of the leading Universities in Northern India.
- So far almost 10, 500 engineers have taken up jobs at the highest level.
- It was granted full autonomy and attained the status of a Deemed University in the year 1985 by the UGC.
The whole campus is a green campus with 6 old academic blocks and 1 newly constructed TAN block. University has 6 hostels for boys with about 3200 beds with the facility of separate gym, reading room, and common room along with mess facility in each hostel.
Also, the University has an In House Market with a variety of shops like restaurants, laundry,café, and general stores.
