The future of engineering in India is one of shifting waters.
Every phase of engineering in India has seen a boom of a certain kind of industry. Mechanical and civil dominated the 60s and 70s, EE and EC made forays in the 80s and 90s while the present century has belonged to the IT sector.
However, as technology evolves, many positions for which IT companies have traditionally hired intensively will move over to automation. New technologies such as cloud computing and big data will become the biggest selling points for a candidate. In short, IT companies will have to up-skill the present workforce.
Mass recruitment will come to an end as fresh engineering graduates will have to work very hard to get placed. Engineering is about to see a sea change, and its all about to happen very soon
