The purpose of an extension center is to reach a larger sample size of students in a region where it lacks presence. IIT Greater Noida is an extension centre for IIT Roorkee, same with IIM Mumbai acting as an extension to IIM Indore. The main campus is almost always more reputed and regarded highly by industry experts due to close knit ties and strong alumni networks.
