Ultimately, GMAT only tests your ability to pass GMAT. Hence, the best way to get better is to practice a lot, but also practice with discipline, so that you can spend time exactly on the areas that need improvement to increase your score over previous attempt. To do this you need to have a method. Here it is: Assess your current level. That will give you some understanding on (a) whether it's feasible to do 750, (b) how much time should you plan for prep. Use an official mock test (from GMAT webpage or from other providers) - there are plenty, and some of them are free. Also, plan to invest in mock tests. If you are at 650 without any prep, 8-12 weeks should be ok. If you are at 450, maybe you will need much more time or should reconsider. Keep track of all your answers - you'll need it at step 3. Read a general overview book, like "Cracking the GMAT". This particular book is good, but there are also other. The book should have overview of GMAT and some broader strategies on how to crack questions, as well as insights on how questions are written etc. By the end of the book you should understand that there are general topics within verbal (CR, RC, SC) and within quant (7 of them, I believe). Analyze your initial performance. Analyze your performance by topics. Likely, you will see that some of them are better, and some are worse. This will give you ideas on how to prioritize your learning Build a schedule. Now that you know your overall score and breakdown, decide on the exam date and create a week-by-week study plan.
