About College

Bhim Rao Ambedkar College came into being in 1991 during the birth anniversary year of Bharat Ratna Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar. It is an integral college of the University of Delhi and is supported by Delhi Government. As a co-educational institution, it is preserving its ceaseless energy on the path of progress ever since its inception, both in academics and extra-curricular fields.

  • The College is binge over an area of about 10 acres. Its building has separate blocks for canteen, teaching, library, unique media block, administration, computer laboratory etc
  • The college is fully sponsored by GNCTD (Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi)
  • The college offers 11 courses other than various add on courses. These courses are assisted up by the capable and enthusiastic faculty associates
  • The College intakes around 872 students in its various Bachelor of Technology and Bachelor with Honors courses
  • The College is in step with the new education strategy of the Government. Importance is laid not just on academic efforts, but its practical submission to the fast altering global scenario

Achivements:

  • The college is one of the 20 centres in Delhi for earthquake strong ground motion station for recording and monitoring the earthquakes in Delhi under a project
  • The college has been selected as one of the e-learning centers (out of nine chosen by the University of Delhi) under DU-ICICI partnership
  • In the academic year 2007-08, the college was accorded permission to start three new courses, viz. B. A. (Hons) Applied Psychology, B. Sc. Life Science and Physical science. The college is offering B.A. (Hons.) Applied Psychology till date
  • The college is the East Delhi Centre for DU-NIIT joint programme for the benefit of undergraduate SC/ST students
  • The college is also an important study centre both for School of Open Learning (University of Delhi) and Indira Gandhi National Open University(IGNOU)

Activities:

  • Cultural society- It has a vision of integrating the abundant talent that the students of this college have by way of providing a cultural platform to them. The club also performs in various inter college festivals
  •  NCC- They participate in various activities like horse riding, rock climbing, trekking, mountaineering, para sailing, rafting regetta etc. They are trained and further encouraged to participate in chief ministers and prime minister's rally, basic leadership camp, republic day parade etc
  • NSS- Student of this unit volunteer in tasks of social service including programs for educational, cultural, social, moral, and economic reconstruction of the surrounding locality. Special camps are organized and programs like blood donation camps, cleanliness and sanitation drives are undertaken
  • The Eco club- The eco club of the college works towards increasing green cover and sensitizing students about the needs of protecting and promoting the environment
  • Green Cadets- Green Cadets aims to build up a team of students who would be trained for spreading awareness and promoting nature. The training module of the Green Cadets includes awareness sessions, skill building workshops, movie screening and practical training programs
  • Red Ribbon Club- It aims at harnessing the potential of the youths by equipping them with correct information on HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support and treatment.

Library:

  • The College has a well stocked library and contains more than 29000 books
  • It also subscribes to various journals like Business India, Computers Today, Economic and Political Weekly, India Today, National Geographic, Outlook, Frontline, Reader’s Digest etc

Computer Labs:

  • There are 4 computer labs in the college all well connected with wi-fi
  • The College has established an IT Hub including 80 Computers and 2 Servers with latest configuration
  • Computer Labs are equipped with Five 10 KVA online UPS for complete power backup

Auditorium:

  • The college has a seminar hall with a capacity of 250
  •  It frequently hosts seminars, workshops and lectures where prominent people from industry and commerce are invited to speak to undergraduate student

 

Festivals:

  • Chetna- The College organizes an annual cultural festival
  • Radiance- It is a management fest which encourages students to exhibit their managerial skills and an in depth knowledge of business economics, in turn, equipping them with professional skills that are required beyond the academic curriculum

Scholarships:

Several scholarships are provided by college and other societies. Some of them are

  • Manmohan Nath Dhar Endowment Scholarship for students whose parental income is less than Rs.25,000/- per annum.
  • Shri Uggarsain Memorial Endowment Scholarship for the student whose parental income is less than Rs. 25,000/- per annum
  • Fee Concession/waiver- Deserving students are given fee concession
  • Students belonging to Other Backward Classes, SC/ST, and physically disabled are awarded scholarship 
  • Children of Army Officers/Jawans killed or disabled are also entitled for fee concession
  • Delhi University and College Karmachari Union Scholarship for deserving and needy wards of non-teaching DU employees
  • Vijendra Sharmila Chopra Memorial Scholarships awarded to blind students
  • Shri Uggarsain Memorial Endowment Scholarship and Manmohan Nath Dhar Endowment Scholarship for students whose parental income is less than Rs. 25, 000 per annum
  • Meritorious students are given Rs. 250 per month for 3 years, based on Competitive examination conducted by Delhi University
  • Delhi University Women Association Scholarships for daughters of Jawans of Indian Army
