About College

The National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology (commomnly called as NIFFT) is a fully residential Government of India co-educational institute which is located at Hatia, which is about 7.4 km from Ranchi. It was established in 1966 by the government of india in collabaoration with UNDP-UNESCO. It is an autonomous and Centrally Funded Technical Institute(CFTI) under Ministry of Human Resource Department(MHRD) government of India. The NFFT Campus is located on NH-75 around 2.2km from Hatia Railway station and 6.4 km from Birsa Munda Airport .Campus is spread over an area of 65 acres

The broadened objective and the stratergies of the institute is :

  • To strengthen academic programmes with introduction of new courses in emerging areas at the Advanced Diploma, Graduate and Postgraduate levels
  • To create centre of excellence and to encourage advanced studies to promote academic research
  • To promote international & National collaborations and joint venture in research & academic programmes
  • To carry out industrial research, design and development work in the areas of material technology
  • To promote collaborative research work with industries and research laboratories

Research:

One of the main objectives of the institute is to carry out industrial research and development work in Foundry, Forge and related fields to help the industry in their growth R&D programmes cover the areas like Pattern design and manufacture, Sand system design. Die life estimation, Forgeability-determination, Evaluation of Lubricants, Melting, Methoding of Castings, CAD & CAM of Casting and Forging, Failure Analysis, Mechanical and NDT Testing, Chemical & Instrumental Analysis, Environmental & Pollution Control, MMC & P/M Forging.

Extracurricular Activities:

NIFFT has many student clubs that conduct many technical and cultural events throughout the year. These include the SAC(Students Activity Centre), SAE Club, Cricket Club, etc.

  • SAE club- (Society of Automotive Engineers) club has to participate in the Baja SAE and SUPRA events conducted by SAE India
  • Thrusters- is a group of students from the National Institute of Foundry & Forge Technology, Ranchi, India who have designed, conceived, and fabricated a Formula Series Car for the prestigious event Formula SAE
  • Kartavya- It is an educational NGO run by undergraduates of NIFFT. It provides support to the underprivileged children who do not have access to good quality educational resources. It also arranges for sponsorship for such children for admission into schools which cover their school and related expenses. It has two study centers at Hatia and Tupudana and planning to extend its exercise
  • SAC club- (Students Activity Centre) It is that place which provides recreation to students, faculty and also a good workout is provided not only tou students but alumni and guests also
  • SPICMACAY- NIFFT holds an active tie with SPICMACAY(Society for the promotion of Classic Music & Culture Amongst Youth )

  • 3560 bond volumes and 215 periodicals in manufacturing, metallurgy, etc
  • OPAC facility to the user through the software 'LIBSYS' is also available

  • Jinks-  Jinks is the annual youth festival organized by the National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology, held in mid-February every year. It is a 3 days fest and comprises more than 35 events
