About College

The Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal, an essential institute of Manipal University, is valued among the top 5 private engineering colleges in India. Established in 1957, MIT is one of the first self-financing engineering colleges in the country.

• In 2000, the college became an integral institute of the Deemed University - Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), which is today known as Manipal University
• MIT is known for its vibrant and rich campus life marked by cultural, technical, and sports events running during the year
• In 1957, T.M.A Pai conceived the idea of establishing an engineering college in Manipal
• The Manipal Engineering College (MEC) was inaugurated on 11 May 1957 by the then Chief Minister of Mysore, S. Nijalingappa. The institute happening with 25 staff members and a yearly intake of 120 students for the UG courses
• The MIT Campus has been visited by several well-known persons at various
• In 1974, it was retitled as Manipal Institute of Technology

MIT has always been proactive in placing the students into the profiles of their preferences.

Extra-Curricular

MANIPAL LITERARY CLUB – It includes activities like book or poem reading by authors, workshops/seminars on literature writing. Members here discuss events for the future, during meetings held by the club.

The Photography Club – Organizes various photography events.

LEO Club – The objective of this club is “to provide the youth of the college an opportunity for development and contribution, individually and collectively, as responsible members of the local, national and international community.”

LUG Manipal – It is LINUX’s user group that promotes technology and knowledge.

Parikshit – This team is building a satellite for a planned launch in 2014. It has students from all the branches.

Aaina – It is the dramatics club of MIT. It produces a play bi-annually. It has won many prizes in various colleges e.g. NIT- Surathakl, BITS Goa, IIM-B, etc.

Festivals

UTSAV  - It is an annual inter-college cultural festival. It is a weeklong program where students from all the constituent colleges participate in various events e.g. painting, cartooning, dance, modeling, mime, etc.

SPIC MACAY – In this, Indian classical and folk music and dance performances are held. It is an active chapter of SPIC MACAY which introduces Indian culture to the Indian youths.

GUNJAN – It is a forum exclusively dedicated to Indian music with the aim of bringing together music enthusiasts on a common platform.

It includes the following genres of Indian music:-

• Hindustani Classical Music
• Carnatic Classical Music
• Semi-Classical Music
• Ghazal, Sufi, Quawaali
• Light Music
• Devotional Music

Library

It is a three-storied building occupying a total area of about 70,000 sq. feet with accommodation of 800 people.

IT Facilities:-

MIT has always been the forerunner in implementing technology solutions in every sector. Some of the salient facilities that MIT provide are as follows:-

• Data Centre: - It has set up a state-of-the-art physical infra. For the data center. It is spread over 3000 sq. ft and houses the server park and network center.
• PeopleSoft Enterprise: - It has launched PeopleSoft IT applications in many domains. It is the first university in India to do so. It supports the HR department as well as the academic mission.
• Manipal GWC – It is a strong and reliable VPN infrastructure connecting all institutes with a high-performance MPLS backbone.
