About College

Government College of Technology is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai was started in July 1945. GCT offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and Doctoral programs in all major departments.

  • The Government College of Technology, Coimbatore is formerly known as Arthur Hope College of Technology
  • The College was renamed the College of Technology and was affiliated to the University of Madras in 1951
  • Initially only Civil and Electrical Engineering branches were incepted at GCT in the year 1952
  • The main building was opened by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the then Vice President of India on 8th October 1959
  • The five-year Semester System was introduced from 1968-69, three-year B.E. Degree course for B.Sc. was introduced 1963-64
  •  Electronics and Communication Engineering was started in the academic year 1970-71
  • All the UG and PG courses are affiliated to the Anna University with effect from the academic year 2001-2002
  • The college celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1994-95 and now completed its 59 fruitful years of excellence too

Clubs at GCT:

Green Club

Its purpose is to promote research and development in green engineering concepts and energy conservation activities in and around the campus.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF CLUB:

  • Received “GREEN CAMPUS OF THE YEAR - 2013” award from Dr.Rangasamy, Chief Minister of Pondicherry on April 4th for the measures taken for conservation of the environment.

 Rotract club

It fosters the desire for the development of social welfare.

ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT IN THE CAMPUS FROM JAN 2013-AUG 2013:

  • FIRST PROJECT-Planting of around 20 saplings in front of alumni block.
  • SECOND PROJECT-A blood donation camp including 150 students
  • THIRD PROJECT-Tie up with “SIRUTHULI” for future projects.
  • FOURTH PROJECT-The president of the club went for an inter-district youth exchange

To encourage creative and innovative ideas for various engineering fields

Science Club

It’s an innovative program conducted for the first years for their involvement in various events. This club has been guided by the Principal and first-year chief faculty advisor. Some of the events of the science club inauguration include General Quiz, Debate, Cultural Fine Arts, Essay writing
