Pioneered by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Indian Institute of Technology is an autonomous public institutions of higher education of India. Newly born independent India established its 1st IIT in Kharagpur from the temporary campus at the Hijli Detention Camp in May 1950. IIT Eligibility Criteria
To get admission in Indian Institute of Technology you need to give Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), an all India Common engineering examination. JEE is conducted for admission in various engineering colleges all over the country and is considered as one of the most challenging engineering admission tests internationally. JEE is divided in two section: JEE-Main and JEE-Advanced. Students who have cleared JEE Mains are only eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced.

With technical and financial assistance of the former government of West Germany, Indian Institute of Technology Madras was founded in 1959 in Chennai previously known as Madras. Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee is one the public university with National Importance in Roorkee, Uttarakhand. Earlier IIT Roorkee was known as University of Roorkee (1948-2001) then renamed as Thomason College of Civil Engineering (1853-1948). It was established by British India by Sir James Thomason, lieutenant in 1847 and was converted into seventh IIT in 2001. It has two campus â€“ Roorkee (main campus) and Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Nestled within several heritage building, main campus of Roorkee is over 356 acres.

To usher new revolution in Science and Technology, under The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, Indian Institute of Technology Indore was established by the Government of India in 2009 in Madhya Pradesh. Under the guidance of IIT Bombay, it started operating from its temporary transit at Institute of Engineering and Technology of Indore University with 2009-1- batch.
IITI started functioning from its permanent campus at Simrol, a location on Khandwa Road about 25 KM from Indore city in February 2016. IIT Indore has even signed a MOU (memorandum of understanding) with IBM India for research purpose.

6th IIT fraternity, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati was established in 1994. With majestic Brahmaputra on one side and hills and open space on the other side, its campus is spread on 700 acres of northern Guwahati. It is considered one of the most beautiful campus in India. It is one of the eight newer establishment of IITs, founded in 2008. 1st session 2008-09 of Indian Institute of Technology Ropar was held in IIT Delhi. It currently operates from its transit campus at former Women Polytechnic that is about 1 KM walk from Rupnagar railway station. And according to the IIT Ropar director Mr. Sarit Kumar, they are expected to move to their permanent campus by the end of 2016 or the summer of 2017. With the approval of Punjab Government, about 525 acres of land was taken at Birla seed Farms on February 24, 2009 in Rupnagar for the permanent campus.

Institute of national importance Indian Institute of Technology Dhanbad is located in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, a mineral-rich region of India. Before converting into IIT Dhanbad under the Institute of technology act 1961 it was formerly known as the Indian School of Mines, Dhandbad (ISM Dhanbad).

Bases on innovations and invention keywords, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad was established in 2008 at the temporary campus in the Ordinance Factory, Medak, Eddumailaram. Most of the institute including academic and administration department, shifted to permanent campus at Kandi near Sangareddy and is close to the Outer Ring Road of Hyderabad in July 2015. Located in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, Indian Institute was established in 2009 under the mentorship of IIT Roorkee. Main permanent campus of IIT Mandiis on eco-friendly land of 538 acres with 338 acres on mountain in Kamand. Earlier it was operating from its temporary base at Vallabh Government College in Mandi. And except for a few labs, guest house,postgraduate hostel, a conference room (with NKN facility), student common room and few faculty offices, whole campus has shifted to new one.

Indian Institute of Technology BHU was founded as the Banaras Engineering College in 1919 and became Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University in 1968. It was the 1st university to introduce Pharmaceutical Chemistry study. IIT BHU is on 1, 300 acres of the southern end of Varanasi near the banks of River Ganges with 400 acres of residential and co-educational area within the campus with 17 academic units.

Indian Institute of Technology established its new institute at the center of knowledge in Patna in 2008. IIT Patna is a part of National Knowledge Network (NKN) that provides a high speed core networking for all the knowledge related institutions in India. It was shifted to its permanent campus in July 2015 to commence its new session at Amhara, Bihta. It is 35 KM from Patna on 501 acres land.

It currently operates from the permanent campus in Palaj, Gandhinagar, Gujarat on the banks of river Sabarmati. The campus will run on solar power as an initiative towards pollution-free, green zone. IITGN was ranked 8th by the National Institutional Ranking Framework. IIT Gandhinagar student team conducts weekend sessions called Sakar to promote interest in Maths and Science subjects among school girls of 6th to 9th classes.

Under the guidance of IIT Kanpur, Indian Institute of technology Jodhpur was established in 2008 in Rajasthan with 109 undergraduate students in Computer Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. Currently IIT Jodhpur operates from 2 temporary base â€“ (1) Temporary Academic Campus at the premises of MBM Engineering College in Jodhpur and (2) Temporary Residential Campus at GPRA Residential Campus, Pali Road Jodhpur and BSNL Residential Campus, Subhash Nagar, Jodhpur.
Permanent campus is currently under construction on 852 acres of land located 24 KM away from the center of the city of Jodhpur on NH 65 towards Nagaur, N-NE from the center of Jodhpur. And the first migration of IIT Jodhpur students is expected in October 2016.

Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad started functioning from August 3, 2015 from the temporary base inside the Ahalia Integrated campus in Kerala. Currently it is being mentored by the Director of IIT Madras, Dr. BhaskarRamamurthi till MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development) appoints its director. IIT Palakkad has acquired land of 500 acres for permanent campus at the Pudussery West, just a few meters away from the Coimbatore- Kanyakumari NH and a few kilometers from the Palakkad railway junction.

Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati started functioning on August 5, 2015 from a temporary base at Krishna Theja Educational Institutions in Chadalawada Nagar on the outskirts of the temple city. The Government of A.P. is providing over 500 acres to IIT Tirupati for its permanent campus at atMerlapaka on Yerpedu-Venkatagiri road, 22 kilometers from Tirupati and 14 KM from the airport.
